It is 40 years since the High Speed Train first came into service and to celebrate, St. Philips Marsh is opening its doors. On display will be a unique collection of locomotives, both diesel and steam coming from all over the country as well as rolling stock from the GWR fleet.

I've never been inside the St. Philips Marsh depot, so that'll be interesting. I'm also just old enough to remember the Inter-City 125 entering service back in '76.

I was working at Bristol Bath Road depot at the time that the HST depot opened, and left the railway shortly afterwards.

Unfortunately virtually all the blokes I knew there (because of course it was all men in those days) would have retired by now, and quite a few will no longer be with us.

Thanks for pointing this out. I am working that day but it might be worth a day off to poke around a few old trains.
