Sleeved exhaust Thanks Sheel
Discussion
As tittle suggests, I've just fitted a sleeved exhaust.
I'm still running the main cat but pre cats gone,
Seems noisier but not by much,,
My standard exhaust actually seems to resonate with a deeper note upto about 2300 revs, louder even,,,
Like the noise has already left the pipe on the sleeved exhaust, but the pops are epic, like a gun, bang pop bang,
Ease right off the throttle and it's almost quieter than the standard pipe. It's obviously louder when on hard throttle but even then it's a higher note, it's actually better for my ears,, I think!
Well I'll see tomorrow as I'm joining Qbee and friends at a trackday tomorrow, I'll sound test it and see what level it's really at.
I seem to think my standard exhaust is around 95dec so it will be interesting what this one shows.
So far I'm very happy with it, it sounds better and the engine does seem a tad looser at higher rebpvs, less torque low down though but only by a small amount,,
Thanks Rich, you've made my week.

That's good to hear Rigga, tractor,,, nah but it does sound more like a V8 now for sure,,
It sounds like it's using more fuel than it is,
I did like the deep hone of the old pipe but this is more exciting by far, I'm just surprised it's not louder, this is fully sleeved and I was sure I'd want to take it straight off but no it's appealing at the moment anyway!

Absolutely - it's when the main cat goes that it gets OTT ...
I never heard mine from outside the car when I had the main cat removed but I've had comments from "I heard you give it the beans away from Tescos roundabout and it sounded epic!" to a text of "Was that your ars*hole ex husband or was that your f*cking friend" to my housemate.

Mine came with the main cats removed, replacement Y piece and sleeved exhaust
Enthusiast drag racer around the corner said it sounded great but I simply couldn't put up with the noise for any distance so replaced the old cat/y piece.
To be honest, in its previous form there was a sort of Impreza bang bang noise I didn't like at all.

So I did a noise test last Friday,
Pre cats removed but main cat in place.
My old pipe standard baffled pipe was around 96db,
Fully sleeved pipe but with main cat in place the car registered 105db at 4500 revs so verging on damaging your ears but as most the time the noise is behind you it's actually around 98-99 inside the car.
I have to agree the bangs from my new exhaust are sort of coming from the end of the pipe as with a standard exhaust it's sort of controlled and seems to be happening in the baffle mid pipe, if that makes sense.
Depending on time of day the new pops and bangs are obnocious and I dip the clutch or use different gears to avoid it!
Other times it's epic and very very childish.
I took someone around looking at cars for sale today, roof off its a lot louder than standard and can feel a bit embarrassing but when your upto pace and cruise it's not so different in fact probably only about 2db louder.
As I still have my original pipe I've got the option to change but during the summer the sleeved pipe seems about right,,
Winter I'd rather have the original on and I do think it gives a lovely subtle deep sound.
The truth is Sheels race pipe as I like to call it, Act with cherry bombs,, that sounds right, about 110db on full chat I reckon but under light load it's very civilised and even on tickover it just sounds right.
My car has now taken on that American muscle sound, Cobra vibe, all CC's and petrol being thrown at it,, no subtlety at all but still thrilling, if I went on holiday I'd put the original pipe on and enjoy the softer side of the car.

This is for my Tuscan not chimera, only just noticed but hey ho I'm here now
I have just sleeved my carbon cans and I bought the car with longer headers (no cats)
It was too quite with the baffled cans on, sounded good when giving it some beans but not the "TVR" sound I was hoping for.
Anyway since I sleeved the cans OMG
SO happy, like little boy! lovely and sedate at low rpms with lovely burble tone (more like a v8) but when my right foot goes down, WOW beautiful sound. Sounds the way a straight six should, it is loud gotta be over 100db easy but only when giving it some welly, below that around streets, town, its just sounds like a "proper" car , not that horrible puffy sound the cans give it.
So lets hope it passes the MOT with them in....
It should do as I have a nissan skyline straight six with 2.5' bore completely open straight from the turbo and that sounds good and has never fails MOT, but a totally different tone due to the turbo cutting up the exhaust pulse tones.
The skyline is louder on idle and on lower revs compared to the Tuscan, but the Tuscan wins when the loud pedal is down.
Best £10 quid I have spent on the Tuscan, 1 metre stainless pipe, cut for 2 x 400mm pipes and a dremmel wheel to remove the weld spots inside the cans
