Mechanics Courses Local Area

I'm not 16 in need of a career and full time study... which seem to be the only options around here. Does anyone know of Evening Classes in Car Maintenance? I have a carefully prepared track car that I just show up and drive and getting a little sick of looking blank when my mates get the spanners out and laptops. The car is Up North hence not being able to take it apart on the kitchen table.

I'm in Tring but prepared to travel through Herts, Beds, Bucks and Cambs to get to something that can give me the confidence around a Performance Car, or any car for that matter. I can change a bulb and a wheel though, resist calling the AA for that.

Any ideas, recommendations, stories or solid leads?
