If I'm wrong with the coin, the table is oak veneer, European (not American), quarter grain with a semi gloss finish hehe

Can always count on the wit and charm of the piston heads community.

I have since discovered that it may be 5 baht. From Thailand.

You're kidding !!

I fly to Ko Samui on Sunday. Just got my notes from Moneycorp. So that's effectively a 10p piece.

good job it's not a €0.01 coin, I've been in Holland for about 8 months, and apparently, if your change is €0.05 or less you don't get any change, just a smile. I live in the UK, and while i don't like to receive a 1P coin as change, just because it's so much more appealing to advertise something for £9.99, £12.99, £99.99, £279.99, whatever the real price is minus 1p, At least in the UK for the privilege for doing that they have to go to the bank, swap a £1 coin for 100 pennys, and actually go to the effort to give me one back.

Are there any figures for how many extra sales companies actually make for pricing 1p under the real price?

Is there even anything you can even buy for 1p anymore? I think last time i checked even penny sweets were now 2p. how much is the scrap metal of all the copper (coloured) coins in UK circulation worth? Is it time to do away with copper coins in the UK? I think so, but if we do, at least make it illegal to advertise at .99 prices when there are no 1p coins available. make it £9.95 instead of £10 if you must, but at least give me my 5p change.....even if its just so i can tell you to pop it in the charity box as i walk away because it's not worth waiting for. (I'm not trying to act like some kind of flash Harry pretending i don't care about 5p's, I'd very much like everyone in the world to give me 5p, but i do a lot of work for charidy you see :-))

anyone know what the lowest value coin in the world is? apparently at the top of the copper value UK copper coins were worth almost 50% more as scrap than face value.....surely with the hyperinflation some countries have suffered there must be even more severe cases of this? I know my wife has a $5'000'000 note from some African country her aunt gave her, pretty sure it's worth pretty much nothing, but surely at some point it must have been worth something? why divide any currency into units worth less than the lowest value item you can buy with that currency?

I realise my post has absolutely nothing to do with the original post, there's a very good reason for that, it's called 'Duvel'

Aparrently not 'do-vell' how i imagine Dereck Trotter would pronounce it when giving a fake surname to Raquel when they first met (although that was do-val) and how everyone else i know pronounces it. but 'doovle', more like doodle but with the second 'd' replaced with a 'v'

Any more Duvel fans in the finance section?

I appologise, i probably wont even dare read this post again once i sober up :-)

It's not real I'm afraid. It's oak-effect plastic.

Not the only reason for the obsession with prices ending in 99p. A mate once worked at Halfords and was told that another reason is to help cashiers check that they've charged for everything - if everything ends in 9p, then two items will end in 8p, three in 7p, and so on. So they can see four items on the counter, total ends in 6p, must have put all four through.

Obviously that's quite dated now, both in terms of having people manually put things through the till rather than scanning barcodes for a description to appear in massive letters on the screen, and having people on tills that can multiply 9s in their head.

What the heck is a 5 baht George?

Easier to add up the -1s. For example if you bought 5 things ending in .99, just take 5p off.
