I've just had my 2007 997.1 in for it's mot, it passed the test but the guy said the steering rack was starting to leak on the right hand side. Can seals be replaced or is this a case of a brand new part fitting ? Incedently, the car has done 43K and has no other ( known frown ) faults. Cheers.

Probably Porsche would replace it with a new/refurb unit. I would try calling a steering rack specialist to get an idea of price - some should show up on google.

I worked on Porsche's steering remanufacturing programme. There's nothing special about the 997 rack. If someone can reman a Vauxhall or Ford or any other hydraulic rack, they can do a Porsche rack. The seal kit might be a few quid more but the labour cost should be the same as any other rack.

There is a guy on fleabay selling refurbed 997 pas racks or have your own original rack refurbed £350 based in Bristol he is 100% rated item number 251695310542 they offer also a fitting service. looks kosher so maybe worth looking into paying a good indy to fit if you supply. Its only a pas rack not rocket science,Good luck.
