Nice weather for it so i got up this morning & decided to get this old tatty mesh out from the bonnet scoop (half of it was blocked up with spray paint drips.)
Using an extremely sharp chisel i tapped through the old mesh which cut through it with ease, tidied up any stray bits around the edges

Nice stainless steel polished replacement, 3mm square aperture (hole size), 1.2mm wire thickness & the best part.. only cost me £7!

I used the old one as a template to get the curves on the corners, after a few back & forths with the disc cutter managed to get a good fit, used some strong adhesive & double sided tape to pin it down (will be removed) just to set it in place, will possibly bond around the edges or a strong black mastic after

And WALLAH.. polished stainless steel grille/mesh bonnet scoop replacement, looks alot tidier if you ask me wink it is actually chrome but camera aint picking it up too well in the shade

Before

After

Cheers
Steve

No you don't wink

jack car up so bonnet opens right up, maybe wheels off to give you a bit more room and in you go.... no problemo

gearbox oil, top up or change? there's no drain plug!

If it's an early bonnet, it will need a 3" wide slice taking off the underside of the front valance to clear the front chassis rail, otherwise the bonnet opening angle is still restricted irrespective of how high the front of the car is jacked up.

Type 9 gearbox: The old oil has to be syphoned out with a squeezy bottle and tube via the filler/ level plug hole. As Phillpot says, there is no drain plug.

laugh i was trying to avoid them along with replacing the 5w capless bulbs in the interior gauge pods/dials.
Well i have a slightly crunchy 2nd gear change, so i was going to do a complete changeover & use some 'Comma 75w090 gl-4' gearbox oil hoping it would give me a smoother 2nd gear change?

No, not exactly what I had in mind (although I dare say it would do the job)!

Loosen the 5 (I think) bolts holding the tail housing to the main gearbox casing, tweak it back a millimetre or two and virtually all the oil will drain out. Tighten back up and re-fill with oil of your choice smile
