Trigger finger, what will help?

Afternoon,

I've got trigger finger in my right ring finger. Had it since December, it's not as painfull now, but it's a sickly feeling when it clicks. I don't want the operation, so do I rest it, splint it, excersize it or just use it? I have made a sort of splint out of polymorph, this has helped but am I doing the right thing in the long run?

So has anyone else had this, and have you any advice you can offer please.

My mum had a steroid injection into the finger. It worked.

Same here, on both second fingers. It worked fine but after 6 months, r.h. digit 2 is back to triggering. Old age!

That was my next question actually, if 'if' I had the courage to go for the injection, how long does the effect last?

Is it just a very good painkiller?
I've googled it, and apparently it's a knotted tendon that can't get through a tendon sleeve. Makes sense. My finger is swollen, I was just hoping for a cure by rest.

I had it in my left thumb. It lasted almost three months and I was on the verge of going to my GP when it stopped as suddenly as it arrived. That was four years ago and it hasn't returned.

No, it isn't a painkiller, it's a corticosteroid that reduces the inflammation that makes the tendon sheath tighten up.

It isn't majorly traumatic...I found a similar injection into my basal thumb joint was very painful 'cos it's a tight location to inject. The TF jabs were nothing.
