Anyone else placed a deposit on the 991.2 GT2 ?
And/or the GT2RS?
Both more than likely I'm told

Wouldn't trust any OPC taking a deposit prior to car officially being announced......now banned by Porsche GB.

New system for purchasing GT cars by invitation only.

You are having your leg lifted.

Deposits should not be taken for unannounced cars (ie. not yet confirmed by Porsche)

Am stunned any OPC would do it given the 'Bolton' debacle.

Get in there now and secure as much allocation confirmation as you can.... 991 GT2 late this year and first supply early next year. GT2RS is an end 17 car and 5-600 cars. GT2 probably 1.200-1.500 cars. In writing I am #1 for both with my OPC.

I have my deposit down as being the first reader of this thread when someone on here eventually gets one delivered.

Very jealous of everyone who gets one.

People are reading more into the 'Bolton debacle' than is necessary - here a customer was explicitly guaranteed a car in writing, which he never received.

A dealer accepting a provisional and fully-refundable 'depost', as a way of a customer declaring a genuine interest in a car is somewhat different.

However, my understanding (from my OPC when I inquired about the 991.2 GT3) was that they were no longer operating a letter of intent (LOI) system.

I was told the same. I was told I would get a call in the next 18 month with more info re allocation confirmation.

I put in an LOI, and have chased up a few times for updates but nothing (doesn't look promising) - wanted to place a deposit but they wouldn't let me (again, not looking promising). I am off to the 718 launch in a few weeks so will harass someone there smile

I was asking the salesman I bought my 997 GTS off a couple of weeks ago what this system was like to deal with.....he said it's an absolutely fking nightmare. I picked my car up a couple of days after the 911R had been announced, said they had people from all over the country (most of whom they have never heard of) wanting to put their name down etc. He said he even had one bloke who came into the showroom trying to force a deposit on him and he caught the guy recording the conversation! Clearly a lot of very genuine customers to disappoint but it sounded like the customers known to the OPC were just much more sensible....although clearly some very unhappy people.

Clearly I am not losing any sleep over the plight of a Porsche salesman but they must get some right old chancers darkening their doors.

I see Auto Express have spied what they believe to be the 991 GT2 RS winter testing - 700 odd BHP with PDK-S etc early rumours. Interesting what 911 Viking says above I am not sure they make a 991.2 GT2. I think they may just go straight to RS for the 991 run out model. The fact they didnt do a gen1 GT2 to then do 2 for gen2 seems a little odd - Especially as in the meantime they have got gen2 GT3 and GT3 RS as well as the 718 GT4 to fit in too.

I'm sorry but have to say - 'already' ?

as in A week ago, or Two at best everyone was rapping over the 911R and how it would be the real world pinnacle car, and Pre-orders, Huge mark-ups and everything.....
Now we have a car not announced (two cars in fact) and we are already on the same train.

The hype caused by the rumour mill of specials, GT's and limited numbers, never mind no one has bloody driven them yet, does make it all peculiar.
IMHO
These cars are quite cheap to make and demand is still big, so Porsche would be silly to stop making these "special" cars while people buy them like hot cakes.

I assume the GT2 will be a GT3 chassis with magnesium roof and carbon panels (GT3 RS, 911R) and an uprated Turbo S engine. Add some new bumpers and there's your highly desirable bespoke limited Porsche.

Isn't that what the GT2RS was, with some carbon parts?

Update - Went to the 718 launch at West London OPC last night and bumped into one of the top sales chaps there (a guy who in fact sold my dad his 964 in 1990) and told him that I had an LOI for the GT2...No Chance was the response frown. He said the process was not as simple as offering 918/RS owners first either, and the 991R process was the worst he had ever faced - dissapointing many frequent and loyal customers. Saying that they gave all (4 I think he said) the slots to frequent and loyal customers...

All of that aside the 718 looks lovely in person,

Wonder how the allocation will be handled.

P.S. - I hate Porsche for making me yearn for a GT2.

I met up with Andreas Preuninger recently who told me it is unlikely a 991 GT2 will make an appearance until late 2017 (2018 model year).

Also, it will be a hard-core, track focussed vehicle since it was proving difficult to produce another road car that would rival the performance of the current 991.2 Turbo 'S'.

Regards.

A 911R owne told me 60 GT2RS for the UK. He gave me no reason to doubt him.
