HELP! Door solenoids/functionality

Hi,

I went to dig my Cerbera out of storage yesterday and as expected the battery was flat. Having jump started it I noticed that the boot solenoid wouldn't fire. On pressing the button I can here the relay in the control box clicking but not action from the solenoid. The solenoid itself was really hot, I removed it and tested it with a direct 12v source, nothing! It's dead.

Anyway, I then tried opening the passenger door, at first the window dropped and the relay in the control box clicks, but no solenoid action. All subsequent times the window failed to drop, and the solenoid does nothing but the control box continues to click.

The boot motor is an easy fix, but I'm a bit confused as to what's going on with the door. Again, swapping the solenoid out isn't a big deal, but why would the window now stop dropping?

Perhaps the reed switch has failed so it thinks the door is already open so there's no need to drop the window?

Are the interior lights going off normally? If not then it's likely a problem with the reed switch or its connectors. Most door/window issues come down to dodgy corroded connectors inside the door.

Also, I have found that once something doesn't happen as expected, the ECUs seem to get confused, and I often have to go through the full cycle of locking and unlocking for doors and windows to work properly. Can't help with the boot sadly, other than to say if the catch ever needs adjusting the best place to do that is in the boot, with the lid closed and a friendly helper to let you out again.

You can tell the Cerb was never sold in the US where all car trunks need to have kidnap proof internal catch releases - don't you just Love America!

Hi all, thanks for your prompt responses. After disconnecting, and reconnecting the module in the boot and cycling the alarm the window drops now work on th button, but still no solenoid action at the passenger door.

I found another PH thread where someone else's solenoids (all 3) died after a total flat battery incident. I guess it's just one of those weak points in the electrical system.

Hello, sorry to hi-jack a little but can someone describe what should happen when the solenoid activates. Is it a single 'clunk' or is it several clunks consecutively?
