There is a possibility I got stung by one of these hidden cameras on the M25 in Kent, just after the M26 joins and before Clackett Lane services (clockwise). On streetview there looks to be a camera on the back of a gantry tucked away out of sight. For the life of me I do not recall seeing any markings on the road, signage or a flash myself (a flash was apparently seen by a friend from their car a bit behind). Stupidly the speed was a little over a ton, never have been done for speeding before and the agonising wait of not being sure if I have been stung or not is enough to put me off to be honest.

Does anyone know exactly how long a notice will take to come through from one of these if I am due one? Also how would it would in terms of evidence if there is no road markings to measure the speed/distance?

I believe it's these and they don't need road markings...

There are small marks under/past each gantry (or there should be) IIRC, think there were last time

You've got a 16 day wait for the standard NIP, (14 + post + not taking piss margin)

Hate to say it but even I stick my CC to 78 through that section (and promptly get pulled by an unmarked car in Surrey, currently awaiting my 109 summons...)

There's a few 5-8 then almost every gantry 10-12 before calming down - Get a detector or struggle. Linked to 'smart' speed limits too... Now there's a contradiction in terms.

Search the forums for all the info. Sounds a bit bleak this time from what you've shared

There is a speed camera sign on and markings under almost every gantry on the M25, it's not exactly stealthy although it does mean the real ones are kind of hidden in plain sight as you start to ignore them.

What's the speed limit on the motorway ?
Did you break it ?
You weren't 'stung' as you put it, you took a gamble/risk so don't moan if you lost this time ?

That section is notorious, I usually bimble along at 75-80 on a journey but through that particular always stick to 70 just in case. Apologies, no help to the OP but I think you're taking a huge gamble doing over a ton on any part of the M25, just not worth it.

It's difficult to believe that anyone would consider the M25 a sensible place to do over a ton, cameras or not. Of all the motorways in the UK on which I drive regularly, the M25 and the M1 are the two I would be least likely allow my car to drift over the speed limit. As for calling cameras on either of these 'stealth' - they must be the most publicised of all camera installations.

You'll know when you're coming up to the newer cameras as about 3-400 yards before you reach them there will be three CCTV cameras on your left just around 4x4 height there are also some between the A2 & M20 junctions in both directions as well as load as you head into Essex.

I'm sure that those are the actual speed cameras, as they've painted them yellow now (if its the same ones you've spotted)

Anything above 100mph on the M25, will generate a flash on any of the installed speed cameras (when there isn't a reduced speed limit). I did post about this ages go and I think I was accused of scaremongering

Those ones take a picture to show what the gantry speed limit was showing, the Hadec fixed to the side of the gantry takes the picture as you pass with your speed.
I presume if no reduced speed limit is in operation, you just receive the picture from the Hadec.

If you are the registered keeper you will receive a notice 14 days or less after the incident.

If you are not the keeper you need no notice but may receive one. You will be given a s172 request to name the driver in either case. If you are not the keeper a notice of intended prosecution doesn't need to be sent and the 14 day rule doesn't apply.

Out of interest, if you knew there was a camera there would you have gone past in excess of 70mph?

Unless the speed limit is just over a ton, OP broke it, or so he says in his post wink

I am the registered keeper so will all be to me.

Honestly no. I completely hold my hands up, it was stupid. I didn't maintain the speed for very long what so ever (I'm talking around a minute). That is no justification for it, I don't recall getting flashed so for all I know I went through it below 100mph.

Just those posted in the link in post 2 I thought?

Not sure, I travel every day from West Byfleet (A3, then M25) to Reigate and dont come across any. Ive never set a camera off even when theres a variable limit in place.

Drove through the stealth camera section on the M25 on Saturday.

It is a wonder anyone gets caught during the day. Everyone seemed to be going at 65, apart from a few in the outside lane who were braking as much as accelerating. I made the assumption these were average speed cameras so stayed as near to the speed limit as I could.

One point: despite the traffic level being fairly heavy, there was very little bunching around lorries and no unaccountable reductions to 50 as was the norm a little while ago.

The only hold up I experienced on a journey from the A23, M23, M25, M26, M20 was a Kent traffic car going at 60mph so everyone slowed to 63 to pass. My TomTom gave an arrival time of 3 minutes later than I managed.

So when there's a fair bit of traffic, it seems as if the cameras keep traffic moving.

I saw no flashes.
