The new boxster coupe has been given a name, how nice

Porsche say it will rank between the 911 and boxster S at the wrong price (ok, I made the wrong price bit up)

Cayman is a bit of a weird choice for a name, non?

Agreed - weird choice of name...can't for the life of me remember which other car it reminds me of ;-)

The market seems to like it tho - they've taken the stock up 1.5% on the back of it

I misread 'Cayman' as something else don't think they really thought this name through, what with the hairdresser association of the Boxster...

Looks nice though, and most people will probably think it's a 911 (which would annoy a few 911 owners).

a cayman is also a type of small alligator, grows up to 4ft long, lives in south america if memory serves me right, and is distinguished from the alligator by having a more armoured belly and a thinner more elongated snout. so perhaps they are saying its a lean mean snappy predator. or perhaps they want to draw attention to the 10yr anticorrosion warranty. who knows. its a stupid name, but then so is cayenne

looks like u were right abt the name...from the press release:

The Cayman is named after a small member of the crocodile family and represents the car's ``strength and agility,'' the company said.

The model will be introduced at this year's
Frankfurt car show.

"we need to name our new car something beginning with "Cay", so we have product synergy with the Cayenne. Lets ensure that the name conjures up no links to our companies glorious motor sport legacy or the new coupes technical details, but instead links it with our pointless uber-SUV." said one Porsche marketing monkey. Probably.

Sorry I posted this on the C7 thread, but this thread seems to have taken over:

Naming is the new convention for Porsche.

I was about to start a thread called 993,996,997 then what? But then I heard, which would make sense, that the 911 will soon be called the Carrera, which it has been referred to internally for a while. So I'm led to believe.

So:
Boxster
Cayman
Carrera
Cayenne

Although after watching the Cayman teaser on the web they need to round up all the people from their ad agency and the marketing department, put them in a room with sharp objects and leave them to kill each other.

Absolutely shocking, who the is that rubbish aimed at. People, exp Cayman buyers I would thought are a little more sophisticated and design savvy than that. Think apple ffs!! Not 'old git' voice over clever words random fish emotion hatstand emoticoninnovatiotion.. ahhhhhhhhhhgggggg

btw, any pics of the Cayman flying around?

I am proud to present the new Porsche Carnage S!

Feck. If Porsche created a car called the Carnage I bet it'd sound awesome and very unhairdresser-like!

that's all i found. I clicked some areas, but got bored waiting for any sign of pictures to load up. (I did only do the dial-up option though... but surely they'd have catered for dial-up users!)

more like.

Nope no pictures, people don't buy a car for it's looks. It's how many clever words you can associate with it.
