Evening all

I'm due to get married next year, and now we have a date, church and venue, its moving on to arranging the groomsman. OH has already selected her bridesmaids and got them gifts, is it normal to get a gift for the best man when I ask him? And also the other guys who I plan to have as ushers?

Cant see anything on Google about this.

Cheers

it would be nice, esp if the bride is doing for her side or it might look badly on you

Go to the pub, buy him a beer. Ask the question.

But if it was me you were asking a Rolex Daytona would be standard gift etiquette in this type of matter.

I dropped him a text asking if he'd do it. He replied immediately saying yes. Job jobbed.

You don't buy him a gift at the time of asking, if anything it would be handed out at the reception as a thank you for helping you put everything together.

I thought that is what the bridesmaids are for...

I had the same guy for my first two weddings. He referred to the first at number two so got dumped for number three. Number three was dull as can be so I'm in a quandary for number four.

Thankfully I'm dating vacuous young sluts right now and none are marriage material. It took me three gold-diggers to realise that; they cost me double the UK average wage between them so for now I'm like a Panda. Eats, shoots and leaves.

I'm getting married in may.

My best friend was over and we were playing gran turismo, eating pizza and drinking beer.

I turned to him and said:

"yo, fag, do you wanna be my best man?"

"seriously? Yeah, cool man.... awesome"

Then we got drunk, and played more gran turismo...

I got a garbled phone call while I was driving home from the mountains basically saying I was one of his oldest best mates and would I mind doing it. He later bought me a bottle of engraved rum as a thank you, but that was after the wedding. We're now godparents to his kids too.

No need for any gift on the day, just ask him.

"It'd be awesome if you were my best man."
"Yes, it would be."
"Another drink?"

I've been best man twice. One of the marriages was always doomed but struggled on for a while before the inevitable, I hear the other is still going strong. Haven't either of them for quite a number of years now.
So I wouldn't over think things. Chances are it's all meaningless anyway.

Don't start over thinking the marriage and its future. It's a chance to get hammered with your best mate and send him on his way into the next phase of his life, making the most of the big day by doing what needs to be done by the best man.

I've done it twice so far and both times was just asked when having a beer. Didn't expect a gift and didn't get one, don't worry too much about that.

It was a pleasure to be able to do it and take part in my friends day!

Drink driving? You disgust me.

A gift when asking? No. Men don't do that do they?

I haven't encountered it, although with my best man I paid for a night at the hotel and his travel costs, but that was due to him being made redundant 5 times in 4 years and him being on his arse at the time.

Once is accidental, twice is coincidence, but three times is careless.

Or, as I suspect, a piece of satire. In which case, bravo sir, bravo!
