I am looking at getting a caravan as an upgrade from tenting for family holidays.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sellers of second hand caravans, primarily in the Yorkshire area? I ask about Yorkshire as I have never towed so if was to buy one I wouldn't want to tow it from hundreds of miles away, and I am near Leeds so fairly central in the region.

I appreciate that like buying a car it would be better value to buy from a private seller, but as a novice in this area I wouldn't want to buy a duff one, and have no idea what to look out for.
Buying from a dealer with a warranty seems like a better option. As with a car I assume an independant inspection would be a good investment, (any recommendations for a caravan engineer in the area also?)

In fact I would be grateful for any information about caravans that experienced caravanners could give! About what to look out for, if it is worthwhile joining the Caravan Club, what is a decent make of caravan - Anything at all.

I am out of my comfort zone looking at spending a few thousand pounds on something I know nothing about, which may be a storming cock-up if I get it wrong and a waste of money.

My wife is bombarding me with links to caravans she has found on ebay, Autotrader, Facebook etc and I haven't got a clue what is what.

Any help would be gratefully received .

Putting 'Yorkshire caravan dealers' into Google throws up loads of sites - pick one, pay a visit, see what you fancy and ask loads of questions. Then go to the next one and do the same, it won't take long before you'll have a fair idea of the make, layout and price that appeals the most.

Don't worry about the towing part, it's a doddle!

I'd never towed before, and I bought a twin axle caravan from near Leeds and towed it all the way home to East Sussex as my towing initiation!! hehe
