Just a quick one - £600 to change 2 O2 sensors from a main dealer.

Is that a fair price for a main dealer?

I am pretty sure I paid £130 to replace one at a main dealer (Strattons). Though I no longer have the detailed paperwork to check for you (passed it on with the car) so I could be wrong. I think, however, I'd have remembered if it was £600 (or even £300).

So it sounds like you're being spanked to me.

I replaced the two upstream O2 sensors on my V8VR.
The O2 sensors are circa £100 each and I got a local garage to change them out without any fuss.

£600 sounds expensive

I also remember 100 quid per sensor. They are very easy to reach once the car is up.
I would say 300 quid should be max for total cost. 200 for parts and 100 for installing.

There's a reason they're called main stealers....

Tbh the phrase fair price can be interpreted in many ways. Dealers rely on inertia and the lack of a rudimentary mechanical knowledge. This forum allows you to bridge the gap.

I note the respondents thus far are pretty well mechanically minded. smile
