Id imagine this is a more male dominated forum so probably not the best place to ask but I like the honesty here so its somewhere to start.

Is a there much of a market for second hand crockery/tableware in the UK ? Or are we too snobbish not to buy new?

Thank you in advance.

Yes
- charity shops sell old beat up crockery
- auctions sell antique crockery (e.g. bone china etc.)
- posh shops / garden centres / interior designers buy the antique stuff at auction, call it chic and sell it on for lots of money...

outside those occasions - probably not

If it's a decent brand, eBay works. People break stuff that's no longer made and need to replace it with matching items.

If it's only fit for a coconut shy take it to a coconut shy.

Years ago my mum asked me to sell a set of royal doulton (sp?) crockery. I pictured it, listed on ebay at £65 I think. Postage was estimated and listed. Then ebay asked for international postage and I couldn't be bothered to go through the estimating process again. So I put down £100 for international shipping.

To my surprise, the set sold to an American buyer within hours.

So in answer to your question and based on basic ebay searches after the sale, I think there might be a following for English crockery in the US

Breaking down into smaller sets might work. Less people these days sit down to a formal meal or tea. So for instance you might break a 12 piece tea set down into four 'trios' (Cup, Saucer, side plate).

If it's something rare and undamaged this website might be interested in buying, only drawback is they're in the USA and you ship at your own risk so need to pay attention to packing.
