i know i know.. "not another brake upgrade post" laugh
Im considering getting the front disc brakes & rear drum brakes changed over later on in the year, so im just trying to gain abit of intel on them before i do.

Ive had a quick look at the S brake upgrade wiki & decided to go with the 'Scorpio Cosworth 2.9 V6 24v' not sure if these are the best choice? Read something about calipers fouling with certain wheels confused so im trying to choose the brake upgrade thats a pretty straight forward changeover but obviously an improvement too.

The brake discs themselves are easy enough to find on evilbay.. full kit example here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mintex-Front-Rear-Brake-...
Now there's a few different choices, 'grooved', 'dimpled', 'drilled & grooved', 'drilled & dimpled, what would you recommend? (links are more than welcome save me trying to track them down)

Also i cant seem to find the calipers anywhere, 887/888 according to the wiki

thanks
Steve

That's what I have anyways..

Just for the sake of clarity, you do know that that set up is 5 stud rather than the four stud the S uses.

Simplest and cheapest front upgrade is to use Fiesta mk6 2.0 ST front callipers and discs. Still needs a spacer of some form for the calliper carrier. Should be possible to get all you need for less than £130.

I'd go plain disc's for road use, dimples and grooves for track show wink

887/888 callipers are getting quite rare now and that equals expensive!

How about going for the smaller 260mm disc's and callipers from a Chimaera or Griffiths, quite ample for road use and odd track venture (imho) bolt straight on with no adaptors, different bolts etc. and easier to find.

Easier for me to find anyway, there's a set in my shed smile

laugh thanks i should of mentioned im actually planning to keep my 'oz 8 spokes' so a 4 stud setup is what i need. I will try evilbay for the 'Fiesta mk6' ones & £130 sounds decent to me!

Hi phillpot, thanks for clearing that up, plain discs will do me just fine then. Yes, was struggling to locate them 887/888 calipers, i take it the 260mm discs would have smaller calipers? Also is that set for sale wink

Just to clarify, they are for the 4 stud setup right? Ive had a look on ebay & some of them are coming up as 5 studs unless the picture is just for llustration purposes.
Well as long as there not rusty id be interested wink Do you have the calipers for them too?

S's, chimaera and Griffith are all (Ford pattern) 4 stud, you have to be a bit careful shopping around for Granada/Scorpio stuff, some were 4 and others 5 stud.

Yes, I have the disc's and calipers. Calipers were working fine when removed but could do with a bit of wire brushing and some paint, disc's are ok-ish but they're not expensive, I'd probably go for new and pads are "as new", hardly used.

Nice one phillpot, apprecited, blimey £33 for a new pair isn't bad at all, might just get them evilbay ones now ready for the conversion. Id prefer new calipers but if i cant find any id gladly buy them off you along with the pads, which size calipers are am i looking for?

cheers

Calipers have 36 and 37 cast into them, they're not as big as the 888/887 calipers (which are massive heavy lumps) but are, not surprisingly, bigger than the 240mm calipers.

New? probably as common as hens teeth?

Reconditioned more possible option, and forfeit the surcharge. But these won't come with the carriers.... a bit of a problem irked

Big Red have a good reputation for re-furbing calipers.

It's a little vulgar to discuss money in public so I have PM'd you what I'd want for the complete package so you have a figure to cost your various options around smile

The set up I'm getting together right now is , for the front, Sierra 4x4 calipers with 260x24x58 mm discs ,all still relatively cheap on eBay ,
For the rear, Sierra (2.0 etc)solid disc calipers with 253x10x33 mm solid discs, but be aware you will need Sierra rear hubs/bearing carriers with the caliper mounts to replace your old ones fitted to the drum cars , alternatively you can use caliper mount brackets which are available for this conversion , I am using new hubs.
You will also need a v8s handbrake cable, or make your own .....cue philpot.
Hope that is some help .
Cheers

Paul.

You don't need to change these, you can get a bracket to fit onto your existing carriers to carriers the caliper, I gave my old set to Mick, he may still have them with a picture.
