Non starter

Trying to get the car running after the winter. The fuel pump primes and the car fires, but only for a second then dies immediately. Car just turns over without starting until the fuel pump primes once again and then it runs very lumpy, with a small backfire for a second or two and then dies.
Fuel pump is ok, new immobiliser last year. Rotor arm is good, leads have very little miles on them. The coil is a few years old and is not a bosch. Changed over afm and stepper motor, same result. Any ideas would be a real help, thanks

I had the same symptoms on my S once, had me puzzled for weeks, ended up being a couple of bullet connectors below the steering wheel. Not sure that its quite the same wiring set up here but the giveaway was a lack of movement on the rev counter.

Might be stating the obvious but have you put fresh fuel in. If it's been sitting in the tank over winter it might not be that great.
