does anyone know where i can get hold of kebab shop style pickled(?) cabbage salad?

i have come to the conclusion that it's the part of the kebab i like most (i know hand my man badge in). i could just that in pitta bread for tea on it's own.

i have tried sauerkraut as someone said it was the same, now we have a jar of that taking up space in the fridge smile

any ideas, or a recipe would be just as good.

Just shred some cabbage and toss it in a light vinegarette? It's not pickled like sauerkraut anyway.

this.
pretty much every dinner time I make a salad like that but with other things, if I used only cabbage it would taste the same. some cheaper places must use something else though...maybe cheap vineagar?

there's also this.

you can normally ask for a salad kebab at most places.... they just give you loads of salad, without any meat, and only charge a couple of pounds!

of course you could always make that much for pennies at home! the hardest part is chopping a cabbage (which is the easiest thing to chop ever). Having another look at that link i posted there's many other salads you seem to find in good kebab shops owned by turkish people, like tomato salad. crappy/cheaper kebab places just give you a heap of raw/undressed salad.

Maybe the ethnic/international aisle at your local supermarket? Must be the sort of stuff you can get in a jar.

Simply run one of these...

...through one of these.

Add a bit of lemon (or lime) juice, a little oil and a sprinkle of salt, and you're good to go.

I think that's the first thing every user learns - hopefully without permanent disfigurement. They're very sharp.
