Remote 'Plip'

I have a pre-owned 97 Griff with a Meta alarm system and I find that I need to get very close to the car to activate the alarm with the remote (spare remote as well).

I note from the documentation that came with the car that the batteries in both remotes were last changed in 1999, so I guess that replacing them now is a good start.

I know what batteries to get, but my question is:
How do I get into the remote. There does not appear to be a small screw holding the two halves together and I do want to just jab a screwdriver 'willy nilly' in the joint.

Can some kind person enlighten me please.

Don't bother changing your batteries,this is the norm!

This is the norm, but if you really want to get into the remote stab it with a knife or screwdriver and twist!

Believe that the battery you need is CR1220. I got some from these guys, and they came through the next day.....

Just get a screw driver in there and gently prise it apart.

The distance at which you can use the remote fob at is never going to be fantastic but I found that new batteries in mine definitely made a difference.

My fob can talk to my Chim at quite a distance. We must be special!

Mine works from about 3m. I use my nails to get into the fob, that way there's no rough edge caused by hard tools. Changing the batteries at 5 years is about right IMO.

Mine works to lock the car if I hold it in ONE place on the front wing about an inch from the body work, yet it will unlock from about 3 metres away.
Can be quite embarrassing when trying to lock the car with loads of people around.

My original TVR fobs were the same too. When I had the Chim serviced before Xmas, I asked for a spare fob and they gave me a round Meta branded one - it works from about 5m+ away pretty much regardless of angle/direction. How happy was I!?

I had the same problem, plipper stopped working nearly altogether. Bought new batteries for both sets and now they work like a dream. From some distance as well, shall I say it?, like normal cars.

no point in plipping at distance as by the time you've got in the immobiliser will have activated and you will need to plip again.

i used to have the same problem as this,until i discovered that i wasnt holding the button in for long enough-from then on it worked from a great distance and at any angle to the car when locking,just like unlocking.

How do the interior sensors work especially with the hood down?
Mine has a Meta system and I waved my hand in the cockpit and nothing happened, but I did it as soon as I had set the alarm so I guess I may not have given it time to arm properly.

not on mine,mind you i let go immediately the door locks.i never had this problem on the old griff-this was the one i discovered out how to use the fob properly.and ive just been out to test this theory on my new griff-no problems.do you think there was something wrong with yours?or could you have overridden the set up somehow?duchone-dont know how it works,but it does! ive gone back to the car more than once to remove something with the roof off and set the damn thing off!

If you continue to hold the button down for a while after initial lock you should get a different flash pattern form the indicators, thus arming the system but with no interior sensor. I got this from the info within my handbook.
