My soulless 12c
Discussion
Went for a drive today in my 12c. As I blasted around the A roads in my neighborhood I recalled journos saying this car had no soul. Wtf were they talking about? I flipping love this car! Its so much more satisfying than my 430 was, and the noise is sublime. I can't imagine the fun that 650, LT or P1 owners must be having if mine is "entry level"!

I tried a 650 and didn't 'get it'. But we're all different.
I think it's hard to get under the skin of any car from just trying one. I think there's a bedding in process where the owner gets to learn what makes the car what it is. Not saying that you'd like the 650 any more of course because it's true, we're all different.SlartiF430 said:

i think you're right pal. it would be boring if we all liked exactly the same stuff.all the bulls
t arguing going on in the boards at the moment about this car is better than that and so on is almost laughable. some of us like ferrari , some lambo and some mclaren. it's preposterous for anyone to argue that any of these cars are bad!i went to mclaren knutsford a couple of years ago because my interest was piqued sufficiently. i've got to be honest....i didn't get past sitting in the cabin as it just didn't feel right for me. weird...and i can't put my finger on it.....just being up close and personal with a 12c didn't light my fire like my first aston or my first ferrari did.
but i'm certainly not going to pull you down on your choice of car...it's good to see someone get so immersed in the thrill of driving something they must have worked hard to get

That's exactly the opposite of what I felt first time sitting in/driving one which proves your point exactly. Can't remember if the one I drove had bucket seats or not but the driving position and view out of the car was perfect. Admittedly the standard seats feel slightly high but not a deal breaker. It's strange that I initially didn't think much of the 12c but for me has improved with age. Still prefer the 650 but can see the 12c becoming more appreciated over time

i felt high so must have been standard seats.!.....i think at the time i was looking there was still teething issues with the iris system to iron out among other things like the door locks .....probably sullied my mind slightly!i saw a deep red one the other week and they do look good out in the wild

A 12C is not entry level though, it was top tier, it's an old model and Macca have taken things on a lot more in the new models. It's a great value buy now, but then a 570S seems a far better put together and nicer car for the driver, the 650 is the 12C replacement.
But for driving it seems the 570S is where it's at, not the full on tech models.
the 430 again an older car still so you have to put the 12C vs the 458 really and at that point most like the 458 better.
But the value per performance the 12C has most thing licked by a mile and they still good great.

Agree 12C represents excellent value for money now and should be compared to be 458 and most definitely not F430.It's a great value buy now, but then a 570S seems a far better put together and nicer car for the driver, the 650 is the 12C replacement.

Prices suggest 12C is £20 to £30k less than equivalent 458 though and even compared to 650S you are getting a 2 year older 458 for the same money.
Given that choice I would choose either McLaren before a 458 dependent on my budget
I had to knock off early today to get some bits done in the office at home. I got finished quicker than I thought so I jumped in the 650S and went to the gym.
When I came out it was gloriously sunny and warm, couldn't bring myself to just drive home.
I dropped the roof and took a "spirited" drive through some nice roads to a pub I sometimes visit. It's The Ferry Boat in North Fambridge if anyone knows Essex, a lovely old place by the river.
Ordered some food and sat outside with a glass of red while the car gently ticked next to me in the gravel car park as it cooled down.
There were a few other people there but as I ate they slowly drifted off and I was the only customer left in the whole place.
I sat back in the sun and listened to the birds singing, the gentle breeze in the trees and the distant "clink clink" of cables against the masts of the boats in the Marina.
Just then a Robin landed on the table, he took a couple of hops onto my plate and started pecking at the crumbs just a couple of feet from my face, I smiled widely.

Superb! Shame your post can't be shown to all the sceptics out there who wonder what is the point of having a nice car.
I had similar experience yesterday...drove my newly acquired 599 to the gym, weather was too nice to be indoors so I had a swim in the outdoor pool, then took a huge detour home driving with the windows down, enjoying that glorious V12. Talk about the good life! This summer is going to be a belter

That's what life should be all about. We are so lucky to be where we are on the whole, and seizing moments like that is important to both those that have and those that would love to have. When I came out it was gloriously sunny and warm, couldn't bring myself to just drive home.

...... My 4x4 falls into most of the holes in it
You were about 4 miles up the road from me at that point........

Yeah, you do have to plot a course through the craters. I go in wide and throw in a couple of chicanes and I don't even need the lift system, it takes a bit of concentration though!
