Much as I would love this to be a wrestling move, it's actually that I saw a huge piling tower with a flat metal base on a building site, only it kept making a submarine 'ping' noise as it moved about.

Is this an actual thing (sonar mapping?) or did I dream it?

there will be a laser level somewhere, as it hits the correct level it pings to tell the operator to stop driving the pile.

If it's not specifically for sonar, why does it need to sound like a submarine?

If I was driving a great big machine that went thump thump thump all day, I'd probably think it was cool to go 'ping' once in a while.

Hmmmmmmm, I wonder if there is an app for that.

That would be very irritating in an office. Kids today, i.e <35 don't know how lucky they are.

The large harbour cranes on the dock, (where our company is based), do that when they are moving, it's just a audio warning device.

But don't they go beep beep beep rather than ping?

I would be more likely to buy that device if it made a noise that made me feel like a Cold War submarine captain

Clever marketing
