Now I don't whimp out easily, but since Saturday morning there's been a full blown war going on in my body! I'd been surrounded by people with colds for a couple of weeks & thought I must be super human as I appeared to be immune. Wrong.
Painful sinuses, watering eyes, a chesty cough, sore throat, painful hip joints, backs of arms & front thighs cold and sensitive. Chattering teeth and then serious night sweats. No appetite and no energy. Very weak too.
I've struggled to work today, but can see me baling out by lunchtime.
So what's the score? Could it be flu?

I've had this last Tuesday and Wednesday I was off work with flu like symptoms I spent the best part of both days in bed it was weird not full blown flu but not just a cold either. Only lasted 2/3 days but a week later I've still got a hacking cough no appetite and coughing up some nasty stuff.

Good luck.

Last week I had a really sore throat that I couldn't sooth it with anything including sprays.

I was feeling generally rubbish for the best part of 2 days until I went to the docs to see what was going on.

Turns I had quite a back throat infection and it was all the way up the back of my nose as he could see the puss pouring down from it. Got a course of antibiotics and it had sorted its self out within a day or so.

I'm generally quite healthy and can't remember the last time I had a cold/flu/ infection but this one hit me bad.

Don't want that again as it was so painful to swallow.

Yep proper full blown full strength flu is making its way round the population, I had it a few weeks ago, keep hydrated and take pain killers, stay off work but try to keep moving. Mine started as the symptoms of food poisoning/norovirus :S but it became apparent it was flu with the chest and throat pain.

If you've got proper flu you wouldn't be able to get into work.

Best tip to distinguish between a bad cold and flu. If there's a £20 note blown into the garden and you have a cold, you'll go and pick it up. If you have flu you don't give a f*** what's in the garden.

Ha, so true. I remember having flu a few years ago. Was in bed feeling massively thirsty thinking "I need a glass of water." Took me over four hours to drag myself out of bed to get one!

I had similar last week, all the muscles in my arms and legs felt pulled and were tight, I physically couldn't get out of bed Wednesday.

No other real symptoms other than a mild head ache and sore throat.

It's a weird one, this time. Three days in, and the biggest problem is a throat that feels like sandpaper (for swallowing or coughing). Can get about an hour's sleep at a time, before it wakes me up again. Drink water, take lozenge/etc, repeat. I can put up with the muscle aches and general lethargy.

But today it got really quite bizarre. As I can't taste anything at all, I bought a pack of bland pancakes for lunch. As soon as I start to chew them, I get all sorts of tooth aches and pressure pains in my mouth. It's as if normal nerve sensations are being interpreted by me noggin as pain. Never had that before.

Oh, and apparently, I'm grumpy at the moment.

Had the same, still have the sore throat and it's been about 3 weeks. Went to see the quack, as I was feeling worse by the day, had a blood test and it's glandular fever!

The throat should get better after a few weeks of rest, but the tiredness can last for months. Taken a couple of days off work, although with an angry Mrs and kids, work would be the better Option!

Cold - don't feel well.
Flu - feel like you've actually been hit by a fking bus. Feel nostalgic about the last bad cold you had because that was a picnic by comparison.

Feel better soon dude.

If you are on an Internet forum typing whilst having these symptoms, it's a cold, not flu. Re post above delete £20 note insert anything, you couldn't give a st.

Bear in mind that flu affects everyone differently and can vary in severity.
