or rather a few days ago.
Not mentioning the name or author.

It claims to be quite up to date and gives 'insider' info into the workings of the legal system, police, SCP's etc, for the benefit of anyone who finds themselves on the smelly end of the justice stick!

The problem I have is that on the areas it covers where I already have knowledge, it's not accurate at all, and though it claims to be up to date, many of it's suggestions are 'so last year' if you see what I mean.

Not impressed.

As far as I am aware, 95% of the legal information in those types of books is rehashed from the motoring forums (eg. PePiPoo)

The other problem is that each case is different - that is why posting the exact circumstances on somewhere like PePiPoo (suitable edited) will get a lot of suggestions.

Apparently they do offer some good advice on what happens if you are stopped for speeding, but just knowing that most officers subscribe to the "attitude test" is enough. It is possible to fight tickets when you have actually been stopped by an officer but unless you have damned good evidence (and know as much when you are stopped) it's a bit of a lost cause.

These books are utter crap. Full of things "the Police don't want you to know." Crap. Virtually everything in the book could be found out by visiting the local library or indeed phoning the local traffic police and asking them! There's not a great deal that is a secret!

I tend to agree with you.

I just looked in disbelief when it said......

'don't sign the NIP, there is no legal requirement to sign, and it's inadmissible without a signature'

For goodness sake!!!!

and another...........

tilt your numberplate, a laser gun will reflect into the road.

???????????.

absolutely no clue whatsoever.

Was this book written by a SCP? Sounds like advice likely to drive up revenue.

Are these the ones you see advertised in the back of Evo, Autocar et al? I've often wondered what they could offer compared to a 10 minute PH session

If, as I suspect, you bought it from Streetwise Marketing, prepare to be bombarded with mailshots for all sorts of crappy 'get rich quick' schemes because selling customers details is one of their 'nice little earners'.

Very good at talking big are Streetwise, but not so good at backing it up, which is why they've been in the poo with the ASA.

Don't blame you for buying the book, curiosity and all that, but you can now obviously confirm for us all that it IS total crap!

There's a whole load of these types of books advertised in mags, 'SAS Street Combat Killer Techniques', 'Be a Millionaire in a Year' etc. If they were any good they'd be on sale in Smiths...

personally, if I knew the answer to this one, the last thing I'd be doing is writing a book about how to do it.

Might post the answers on PH though for suitable recompense

just bread another bit. The author seems to think that the ACPO guidelines are some sort of defence against speeding.

Sounds like simply putting into words what the lads talk about down the pub.

heres a good one.

Ways to avoid being detected by laser gun.......

Have a dark colour car.

I ask you????

Well it works for Streetwise Marketing, which is how the bloke running it can afford to drive a Ferrari - unlike the people who buy his books...
