I'm thinking of buying a dashcam and would like a couple of bits of advice please.

1. If ever I need to legally use a piece of recorded info, accident etc, does it need to be one with GPS? and 2. how easy are they to move from car to car, will occasionally be used in a '7' without windscreen

Ta everso in anticipation

Have you tried using the "search" function?

Dash cams have been frequently discussed on here and I'm sure the answers to your questions will have been answered already many times. smile

Indeed they probably have, but technology changes at a vast rate of knots.

I have one, time and date are always correct but I dont bother with GPS.

Full HD so good quality footage should I need it.

Turns on and off by itself

Easy to unclip from the mount and easy enough to hardwire the power supply into a couple of cars so just buy another mount and stick it in whichever motor you decide to take out.

Pheasant, if your aero 7 has a centre mirror, then this could be worth a look - easy to install and even has the 'pocketgpsworld' speed camera database on it and a wider rear view....

If you want a small camera, have a look at the Mobius Actioncam.

and no matter how minor the infraction remember to include copious amount of swearing and questioning of the other driver's parentage.

GPS is useful if you should receive a speeding ticket, the speed will be recorded with the footage.

Also feel free to rile them up until they want to hit you, then claim "you're on camera" as if I offers more protection did than specify 4 eyes' glasses when he was 6.
Ohh, wait. Tthat's helmet cams. Slightly different ruleset smile

Depending how much time you spend driving & how big the memory card is, the footage could be long gone by the time you get the ticket in the post. Chances are the footage would just confirm what the ticket suggests anyway.

I purposely got a camera without GPS (Mobius). Location of any incidents should be clear enough from the footage, and approximate speed could be worked out if you really needed to.

I keep 6 months worth from all the cars. A single 1TB HDD is sufficient for this.

Fair enough - but most people probably don't bother to do this. I don't because I'd have to do it every 2 days (32GB card) and the chances of it being useful to me in the future are pretty small.

Can't remember the last time I had a 'near miss' as I usually drive a 4x4, however the cam will be for a '7' and some vehicles are more vulnerable than others to the blind and ignorant tts on the road.

So I can review if I ever receive a ticket through the post. Never happened yet, but, who knows?

I do the same & took out the anti alien "aa" package on my insurance so in the event of damage to my vehicles from aliens I'll be covered. After all Debbie Harry sang of such events although so far it's never happened I'm glad to admit, but who knows.

I quite agree with you about storing the video recording for a few months, you never know when some jumped up accident claim may drop through your letterbox or dodgy speeding ticket, so it's well worth holding onto the footage, plus if there has been a burglary in that time frame then the footage can be reviewed. Am sure plenty of burglars are caught on dash cams from passing motorists. Now if the police requested details from time/dates that would help them immensely.

I'm using a Mobius and a 0806 dash cam with 64GB/128GB cards but they only store the video recording for a few weeks before being overwritten.

Am very interested to know what dash cam are you using and how are you connecting the 1TB HDD because that would be very useful indeed, plus far safer if the hard drive was in the boot of the car rather than up front in the dash cam where it might get damaged in the accident.
