997.1 rattle behind rear panel

I have a 2007 997.1 C4S and it's developed a rattle like loose change clicking whenever I drive over any sort of irregular surface. It's coming from the rear parcel shelf area and I think I have tracked it down to behind the upright panel under the rear window - I think it is called the rear wall panel. I've searched and found this post http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/42307-rear-pa... that seems about right. However before I attempt to pull the real panel wall away and potentially break a few clips (as mentioned in the post), has anyone else done this and is there a 'proper way' to remove the panel that won't break the clips?
