TP.... or more sinister?

Driving the S2 at the end of last week and figured the TP was on it's merry way [again] - usual probs as noted a million times before on the forum. BUT, this week, the car's been running mainly fine, until it's hot from a long run and it's idling. As soon as the radiator fan cuts in, the revs start to stutter and die. Does this still sound like the TP as I suspected originally, or could there be something more sinister going on under there??

If it's that sudden when the fans come on I wonder whether it's some sort of electrical problem. maybe a dodgy earth? If you can get at the fuse for the fan, it would be worth popping the fuse in and out a few times to see whether the problem immediately comes and goes. Tha would pretty much confirm an electrical problem imo.
