How to preserve a t-shirt design, from a t-shirt...
Discussion
A friend has a t-shirt made during the First Gulf War which is now old and tattered. She has a good photo of the t-shirt. It features a red desert rat, the t-shirt is grey. Massive sentimental value, the t-shirt designer did not make it back.
Does anyone know of a way of transforming the photo in to an image which can be applied to a new t-shirt?
I'm assuming it's relatively simple, but as I don't know the techniques it's beyond me!

Just wanted to see the degree of fading.
I'll certainly try, but don't put your mortgage on a result just yet.

We have faith in you

Thanks Ali.
The intricacy is not the primary issue, it's clarity.
From there, it can be overdrawn far more accurately. The image posted here is low resolution and for linework, it makes for a mushy template.
The good news is that given a sharp start point, recreation should be no problem at all.

Looks very intricate in places to recreate from the image here. Good luck to PP.
If the top could go into a high res scanner to bring a sharp, flat image of the design it would be much easier.
This ^^^. Another option would be to start with pinning the t shirt flat on a board and taking a high resolution shot of it. Directly overhead of course. If the top could go into a high res scanner to bring a sharp, flat image of the design it would be much easier.

Thanks for trying - she's off to look for some local services to help
As of course she is completely entitled to do. I hope she can find a solution that is designed for this type of issue and it's cheap. For the sake of a high resolution base file though, I would gladly do the image for free.Do you know the resolution of the image she sent you initially? Thumbsnap I think reduces to 72dpi. An original file at 300dpi and above would be usable, so long as it's focussed correctly.
Maybe talk to your friend and PM me if you need any help.

Ohhh - true. I hadn't thought of the fact that the image will have been dumbed down.... Hold on...Do you know the resolution of the image she sent you initially? Thumbsnap I think reduces to 72dpi. An original file at 300dpi and above would be usable, so long as it's focussed correctly.
