Citizen Eco Drive
Discussion
I have a 16+ year old Citizen Eco Drive with a knackered capacitor (kept in the draw for too long). It has been to the Watch Shop for a replacement capacitor and unbeknown to me they installed a newer version capacitor which doesn't bridge the gap sufficiently for the terminals hence why it still doesn't hold charge. Luckily the jewellers that I used have refunded me. I contacted Citizen UK and they have stated that the watch has been long discontinued and that they no longer have parts for it.
Is it a case of putting it up on ebay for spares or is there a Citizen 'specialist' that know these watches that also carry spares that could help?

Do you know the calibre number? It should be on the back - 4 alpha-numeric characters and probably starts with an E for an early ecodrive.
I keep a fair few capacitors in stock and have a Citizen parts account (it's surprising what the parts guys can come up with sometimes when the service side don't want to take things on!). As a last resort, if the right one isn't available, there's almost always one that can have its -ve contact finger modified to work properly with the earlier movements.

Hi, thanks for posting, 7870-H07472 TA 711199 are all the codes off the back of the watch. 7870 seem to be the calibre number, at least thats what I entered on the Citizen website. http://c05.coacdn.com/calibersWPC/7870_ebook.pdf - 'When you replace the secondary battery, be sure to use a designated secondary battery (Titanium Lithium Ion Battery/component number 295-34)'.I keep a fair few capacitors in stock and have a Citizen parts account (it's surprising what the parts guys can come up with sometimes when the service side don't want to take things on!). Any info you have or can find out would be much appreciated

Yes, 7870 is the calibre - not quite as early as I thought - and 295.34 is the right capacitor for it. Not sure if I've got that in stock (can check tomorrow in the shop) but it's still available so not a problem to order if needed.
The UK service centre tend to only take on jobs where all the parts for a full service are available (in practice that usually means full movements for quartz and eco models) because they tend to exchange the movement rather than individual repairs and the full movement is obsolete now.

Any luck in finding one on the shelf? Glad I gave them the info in advance if thats the case, sounds like they would try and change the whole lot if they could even if there's nothing wrong with that part.
