External door push removal?

I've exhausted the search facility with words like Griff opener, pushbutton, door handle - nothing.
The external ally door push buttons/openers/handles?/releasing control knob things on my car are a bit manky so I quite fancy polishing them up a bit - the ally door frames to the leading edges of the doors have come up great with a little ebay polishing kit I've bought - but chances are if I attack the door buttons I'll catch the surrounding paintwork trying to get to the button edges.
Anyone know how to remove the door buttons? If it's a PITA I have a plan involving lots of masking tape

From memory there some grub screws with allen key heads? Other than that check inside the carpet flap behind the doors.

Ta! I've just found a pic of the button out of the car which suggests you're right - the allen hole in the grp must release the button from whatever's underneath it. They're less than 9 quid each brand new as well. But where's the fun in that...

The mechanism will be under the push so just pull back the flap behind the seat and look up. Its velcroed to the rear carpet section - should be obvious when you see it.

Yep, got my drivers side knob out now - dead easy. Back grub screw off and the knob just slides out. Needs the rod wiggling a bit (after pulling the flap back to get a grip on it) to reinsert the knob smoothly, but straightforward. Ahem.
If I had loosened that allen grub screw without prior knowledge the exhaust would probably have fallen off...
