HT leads End crimping

Got the ceramic ended ones which need the dizzy or coil pack ends crimping on

There's a few videos on YouTube showing the wire bearded off but not very clear
I have had a play with an old lead and when you strip it there is 3 different depths you can go

1 just pull the insulation off and leave a black central core and crimp to that
2 as above but remove the first black cover and crimp to the next black layer
Am not too bothered at the moment but chimV8 wants me to do his set
Any advice greatly appreciated

I'd have thought down to the third layer but why not put an ohm metre on the second layer and see if it is conductive or an insulation?

Years ago I bought a lead kit made by MSD. It came with a special plastic crimp tool which I have used many times now.

Strip back to just leave the black core. Leave it long enough to fold it over the end of the insulation and back up the outside of the insulation by about 10mm. The crimp then wraps around the whole of the insulation with your black tail trapped in the back of the crimp.

ETA Do you have a suitable crimp tool? If not you will have great difficulty making the joint and may end up with leads that perform worse than OEM.

I'm sure I bought a proper plug lead ratchet crimp tool if it would help fella ... I even think I know roughly where it is!

I've got a set of ceramic leads on order from the states so I can go throw my crappy spark plug extenders off a tall building - people who've done this before - would this tool do the job?

I`d say not.

If you have a vice go to Real Steel. They sell a small vice held crimper that works really well.
