Looks like my Boxster may be dead.......
Discussion
A great day out with the car today turned to disaster. My 2000 Boxster 2.7's temperature started to creep up a bit but I put it down to being stopped in roadworks & then not getting up to a fast cruising speed (talking just over 80 degrees). However, when I did get onto a clear stretch, the temp continued to creep up, so I pulled over to investigate & discovered a small pool of coolant next to the cap which clearly had oil in it.
A Porsche specialist was a couple of miles away so I thought I'd try to make it there, but again got caught in traffic, this time the temp got up to around 100, still not crazily high. There was more oily coolant next to the cap when I arrived.
Guy reckons it's a cracked head from a cursory inspection. If so, the car is basically done. Got recovered home. Anything else it could be which is less serious? I've read about oil coolers failing I think.
Can't believe it, car was running brilliantly, had a fantastic 150 mile drive up round Glencoe before this happened.

If the coolant had been dumped on the driver's side, just forward of the rear wheel, its likely to be a split / cracked coolant reservoir. This is extremely common on older 986's.

Referring to the coolant cap, the coolant escaping was like milky coffee. Looking inside now it's clearly full of oil. Doesn't look like there's any water in the oil though (just from pulling the dipstick). The oil level has went from showing full on the readout to only one bar.
No leaks underneath or from the coolant reservoir.
