BBC2W is currently showing a "fly on the wall" documentary about the police in Rhyl.

They stopped a driver that they suspected of drink driving. He refused to blow into the breathalyzer until he had smoked a cigarette, but the officer said no chance as it could effect the reading. After three failed attempts at blowing, he was arrested and taken down to the station.

He failed to give a sample at the station, and was locked up for the night.

He was eventually charged with failing to give a specimen of breath and was banned from driving for three years.

Would this charge have the same effect on his insurance as a drink-driving ban?

He was banned for failing to provide a sample of breath for analysis so AFAIK he would not have to cough to a drink driving conviction (because he doesn't have one).
Many years ago a Trafpol pointed the exact same loop hole out to me, don't know what the situation is now though.

MMMmmm..

It's still a disqualification that the insurance firm would require notification of....

I believe it has the same ramifications for your insurance

I'm pretty sure the insurance company would treat it the same as a DD conviction. The courts certainly did look at the lenght of the ban.
