Hi guys thanks in advance I have a friend who suffered from epilepsy as a child but has been siezure free for around 15 years

Anyway she had what is potentially a siezure episode a few weeks ago and is seeing a neurologist to confirm/deny that's what it was

She only passed her test in the middle of last year so is still in the probationary period what I'm trying to find out for her is will she have to resit again if she has her licence revoked on medical grounds during the first 2 years?

I had a weird period about 15 years back when I had a couple of collapses and fits, I was just told by the doctor not to drive till it was tested, took a few weeks and they found nothing! I suspect if they do find it was epilepsy she will have her licence revoked...probably for the best though don't you think?

Yeah I'd agree with that what I meant was if she does have it revoked will she simply get it back after a 12 month seizure free period or would she have to start again from scratch with her being in the 2 year probationary period?

No, she won't have to resit her test. And what's more, the 2 year probationary period continues to run even though her licence is revoked, so she will continue to work thru her 2 yrs probation whilst banned on medical grounds. Which is a bit of a bonus in an overall crappy predicament.

The 2 year probationary period for newly qualified drivers is defined in the Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act 1995.

This Act makes no mention of driver retesting other than following licence revocation through accumulation of penalty points.
