Opened a Santander 123 account a month ago and setup two direct debits. One of these was a phone bill and the other a charity donation. I noticed that they hadn't taken payment for my phone bill and according to my phone operator the payment was overdue. I paid it on the phone and they told me that for some reason a direct debit wasn't setup even though it was and I have evidence. Now my charity donation payment is due and yet again the money has not come out my account when it was meant to. I will need to phone them tomorrow to sort it out but I wondered if any others had the same problems ?

I had a similar situation two years ago with santander, set up a new account, used the direct debit transfer thingy that banks offer now and ten days later get a call from the mortgage company saying that my payment was overdue. I contacted santander to find out what was going on only to be told that there wasn't enough time between opening the account and Barclays asking for a payment and it was tough titty and I'd need to sort it out myself.

If it wasn't for the fact it was a joint account I'd have fked them of there and then.

I would not countenance a bank that used the phrase 'tough titty'. smile

Tbh if we posted up every slight hiccough we had with a bank this would turn into the longest thread ever.

It's not necessarily Santanders fault, as DD are normally setup by the service provider of the bill that needs paying.

I have never had any problems with Santander.

Quite right, also talking about no problems at all can be boring.

I opened a 123 account three years ago and it all went like clockwork,my wife also opened one without a problem.
If I have a query I use the secure message service and get a reply back next day.(My old bank I had spend hours on the phone talking to someone in India).
I`m getting great service and Santander are paying ME £30-£40 a month in interest and cashback.

Same here, they're paying me loads (cashback on the mortgage as well as the interest and other cashback) and I've never had any trouble. Well worth sticking with them if you get your initial DD problems sorted out.
