Has anyone else had one of these of late?

Any ideas how to stop choling on your own snot every fecking night. I'm using an antihistamine nasal spray but it doesn't seem to work and it's starting to seriousy get me down.

Any ideas what might help?

Yep, had it for the last year frown

Tried neti pots (I.e. Washing it out with saline), nasal sprays, even been on two courses of antibiotics trying to kill any infection. Going for a CT on Thursday to see what's going on.

I've got an air ionizer by the bed which helps at night but otherwise all you can do is keep hydrated and try getting out the snot whenever you can. For me, this is only ever first thing in the morning - within 10-15 minutes it's all drained back into my head again.

Good luck and if you find a miracle cure please let me know!

I used to get this rather a lot before I had my sinus op - it royally sucks frown I never found a foolproof cure for it I'm afraid. Things that seemed to help me though were:

  • Sleeping propped up (anything less then two decent pillows and I'd be choking on my own mucus)
  • Menthol inhalation - fill a bowl with water from a freshly boiled kettle, dump a load of Olbas oil in and stick your head over it with a towel over you to help trap the vapours. Do this for about half an hour or so before bed (with liberal nose blowing every few minutes) and it will help clear things out.
I don't recommend the saline washes - I had to do them twice a day after the op. They are good for preventing infection but personally I found it washed too much mucus into my stomach leading to several incidents of vomiting up water mucus for an hour or so. Not. Fun.
