Has anyone else seen this?

My lovely local council people are trying to hide Gatsos....

They've put the yellow "now you can see me" backs onto the gatsos - Which is nice... but then they've stuck a road sign in the way of the gatso - In THREE separate places, so it's not just a error...

When I get back off hols I'm going to post some pics here to prove this outrageous revenue earner.

I'd be interested if anyone else has seen this.

Cheers,
Dave.

That requires a letter to the council and your MP, cos if they're on the netting scheme then they can't keep the cash they raise...... Just a thought, see if you can stir up a bit of trouble for them....

The sneakiest one I know is on the A3 in SW London, just a couple of hundred yards before it widens out and goes from a 50 to 70mph limit. It now has a yellow back, but it might as well not have, cos it's neatly hidden behind a square sign, and I actually saw it cause an accident a few weeks back. A Micra driver, no doubt seeing the open countryside and NSL signs ahead, accelerated, only to spot the camera at the last second, slam on the anchors, and get a van up his rear. Cue lots of hard braking from everyone else, and tyre smoke and near misses all over the shop. Numerous skidmarks on the tarmac and debris in the central reservation suggest it's not the first time that camera has produced an accident out of nothing.

On the lines of???
You are herewith requested and required herewith and immediately to comply with (name law / Order etc) by such and such a date otherwise our lawyers will be instructed to proceed against you/the council for intentionally breaching the a/m applicable law. All costs will be made chargeable to the you/the council as EU Law guarantees.
NB this works wonderfully in Switzerland and Germany and should work in UK too, you've just got to have the guts to do it!?!?!?!?! It works especially well if you know the name and home address of the civil curvant in charge and send it by registered mail to his home and his workplace!
NB sign it "your employer the taxpayer Joe Bloggs"

Around Kent they seem to be using a new, devious ploy. Speed limit signs that are usually round, or smaller round repeaters are being replaced with the round sign in the middle of a larger yellow square sign. Coincidence. Ever noticed how many other yellow backed signs seem to cluster around speed cameras.... noticed this particularly on the A2.

Seems to be that if they can't hide grey boxes in and around other grey street furniture then they'll just make the other street furniture yellow.

All gatsos should comply with guidlines set by the home office. See Association of British Drivers website at www.abd.org.uk. Check out all the speed isses raised there too!!

dennis

were they single loops or two loops, you need two loops to do speed detection, single loops are often used for vehicle occupancy (ie is there a vehicle there) or simple vehicle counters

They look to be two loops i will check tomorrow and keep you all poseted on whats going on top of the pole methinks its somthing nasty to rake money in as cameras are too visible and they are loosing income

Surely the accident was due to bad driving, people not keeping their distance etc., though I accept had the camera not been there this would never had happend, though what if a fox/child/wheel suddenly appeared? same outcome if you're not keeping your distance..

These things sound like traffic counters that also record vehicle speeds, this is nothing to do with speed enforcment, but it is used to find out average vehicle speed through the day/week. Its purely a data gathering device. you can find out how many people stick to the speed limit, etc it can even tell what sort of vehicle. ie HGV, Bus, car motorbike. If there is an accident problem and 85th%ile speeds are well above the speed limit etc.....maybe a speed camera or junction/road improvment would be considered. There's millions of these things all over the country. They do not record number plates or anything like that.

True - the van driver was clearly unable to stop within the braking distance he'd left. But the siting of that Gatso behind a square sign, on a straight, well fenced-off dual carriageway, and within spitting distance of the start of a 70mph limit is 100% cynical revenue-raising - and worse still, it's bloody dangerous. It'd be very interesting to see the accident stats for that stretch of road pre- and post-camera installation, but somehow I bet they aren't published!

I know its an old thread but has any one else noticed the increase in numbers of little grey boxes at the side of the road with double loop sensors buried in the tarmac ?

Its a DS2 speed measuring setup.
The cops go park up someplace a little out of the way, hook up their cameras and wayhay! kerching!! lets rip off some drivers!....easiest way to deal with them, is a 4 inch nail driven thru it with a hammer, somewhere between midnight and four am.......allegedly....

I think deltaf may be right about this. These new speed traps are bloody sneaky.
Not only are they impossible to detect or jam (the only solution is GPS warning systems) but they also do not need to be visible under netting off schemes because they are not permanent traps (like gatsos) and are operated by the police (with a video camera).

Very sneaky. Be carefull out there. Oh and I'd do as deltaf suggests. Get some nails.
