Just a quick question - over the weekend I put a deposit on a 2007 CLK 280 Sport. I haven't seen it in the flesh or driven it yet, but I'm not expecting any issues. The mileage is 90,000 which is higher than I'd normally go for, but it has the perfect 'spec' that I wanted. Would this mileage give cause for concern for anyone else? Any questions I need to ask? It has full MBSH. It's my first UK Merc so I'm quite excited smile

My CLS came with 110,000, now on 113,000, just had a small oil leak to deal with, the engine runs really well, doesnt use any oil etc.

I wouldnt worry, just make sure it has had some maintenance over that mileage, main thing is the bodywork and interior isnt tired, I think a lot of it with cars is perhaps not so much mileage as age, people make a big deal about tiny mileage cars but I dont think its any guarantee of avoding problems and the 100k psychological barrier is just that, a Punto will soldier on but surely a Merc that cost 5 times more should go a lot further.

Thanks J4CKO. My A3 had 270,000 miles when I gave her away and my A4 has 190,000 - both faultless, but also diesels! The bodywork looks very good (I'll get it professionally valeted when it arrives), and they're dealing with some stone chips before I pick it up. I asked them to make sure the timing belt had been replaced... just to find out it was a timing chain - PH amateur!

I loved my CLK. You could lean on it into a corner more so than my SLK. A lovely ride, lots of room for four and their luggage if the coupe, and the pillarless roof is an attractive feature.

The only problem I had was with the 6-speed box. I seemed to be forever changing gear. The change itself was pretty good, although there was a certain notchyness when new (not your problem). If you've got an auto, then the 7-speed box is sublime. Mine, in the 350 SLK, would change in the middle of a corner if I was just keeping a little throttle on. Disconcerting, although it didn't feel unstable. I took to going manual through fast corners. It was the only negative though.

The V6 is lovely to drive behind. It is silky smooth and has a reputation for longevity if you ignore the problems with the balance shaft gear of the early 350s.

As long as it has been regularly serviced and decent oil used, there should be no problems, but please don't quote me on that. High spec cars have real quality kit. Make sure everything works though. The Merc satnav takes some getting used to if you normally use Garmin or TomTom. Further, and further is the word, the screen was too low for me. It was well out of eye-line so in the end I took to putting my TomTom in the car.

I like 6-cylinder Mercs. I had a 2.8 214 and that was silk from contented worms. But the V6 is as good.
