I've recently been done for 59 in a 40 by one of the numerous scameras set up in Staffs.

When i returned the section 172 form to the police i 'forgot' to sign it. It's been returned claiming that i have to sign the form and return it within 7 days. Is this correct.

I've filled in all the other details on the form, and therefore as far as i'm concerned have admitted the offence. I can't see how i can be compelled to sign it.

Any thoughts?

If you've filled the rest in, what's the big deal about signing it?

You do have to sign it...

Go to www.pepipoo.com for better legal info - try the PACE argument.

Also write back and ask for the badge number of the copper who got you.

sign it..it's an official document...if not..you've not completed it properly and it might cost you...even more.

the Idris Francis case closed the door on this particular loophole as streetcop says.

What he hasn't said is that there is another loophole being tried at the moment. Puggit has recommended pepipoo and I agree - do a search on "pace witness statement" and you will find some encouraging advice.

while pepipoo is very good...at both assisting the public and the police alike..

it also has some information which is inaccurate...or misleading...

for example...the advice that you only have to supply your name, address and occupation is incorrect...as in fact it's only your name, date of birth and address

In addition, the advice about getting your passengers to accompany you to the police vehicle and other such stuff....can sometimes 'talk' your way into a ticket..where the officer might be thinking of a simple word in your shell-like.

Cheers for the advice.

The PACE statement stuff is very interesting.

Has anybody had any success using this approach?

I'm seriously thinking of trying this tactic out.

Some feedback from those who've tried this approach would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find plenty of threads over there where it is agreed that all information requested should be provided, even down to the colour of your underwear at the time

Using the PACE statement just doesn't allow your information to miraculously transform into a written confession. I for one won't be crying myself to sleep wondering how the 'Safety' Camera Partnerships will cope with that one!

Check out the success stories on pepipoo

I "know" it has worked......

You'll normally get a "time-out".

I'm not advocating speeding (just in case Street gets the wrong impression ) but if I'm so bloody dangerous on the roads then stop me and prosecute me, don't take a picture then try to rob me of sixty notes.

Nobody has been done, using the PACE approach. One day they'll probably pick on somebody to try it out, but play the numbers, it won't be you.

If you 'win', donate half your potential fine to www.pepipoo.com so that they can continue to offer their excellent advice.
