I've got Athletes Foot which I can't get rid of! I've had it about a year and it got so bad I ended up with a bad and painful infection under it which required strong Antibiotics. I have treated with Daktacort cream and Trimovate cream but it won't go any ideas?

Thanks

Throw away all your socks and start again (& also chuck your old slippers and stinking trainers ;-)).

Also use the athletes foot talc, both on your feet and in any shoes you need to keep.

I don't have it very badly but last summer it spread up my legs, even though (I thought) I had it well under control. At the moment I use Mycota cream daily after showering, sprinkle Scholl athletes talc on top and Scholl spray inside my shoes/slippers each day just to ensure this spring and summer will be foot-rot free.

Powder is the answer rather than spray and keep using it even when it's gone.

See your GP. A course of systemic (oral) antifungal therapy could be indicated along with topical creams (and possibly a medicated nail lacquer: you'll likely also have fungal infection of the toenails). The poster above who mentioned ditching socks and footwear is correct: bin all your old stuff once symptoms have disappeared. No point buying new stuff before this point though smile

Your GP will probably recommend you continue using the topical stuff for some time after symptoms have disappeared, this is important.

The usual advice will help: dry your feet thoroughly, don't wear the same shoes on consecutive days, thin socks, lace shoes loosely if you can, get your feet out to the air at every opportunity.

To the good advice above I would add this -

When you think you've beaten it, keep treating it for another month. Get another supply of your preferred potion (clotrimazole was mine) and keep going on *both* feet for a full month after you're sure its already gone.

Good stuff!
If your clothes are acting as a reservoir for the fungal spores the infection will keep coming back whatever treatment you have.

According to some radio phone in medical show I heard years ago there actually is something anti fungal in urine, but in such low concentration you'd need to soak your feet in it for ages. The doctor reckoned the reason it had cured the person who'd phoned in athelete's foot is because he'd peed on his feet he made a much better job of washing them afterwards biggrin

My advice is never wear the same shoes two days running and always change your socks daily. It's amazing that some people will wear the same shoes and socks for multiple days on the bounce. (Not saying the OP does this BTW)

I had a bad round of athletes foot when I was using the gym regularly (now I just pay the gym regularly but don't go...)
I would dose up on the cream and powder my feet / socks / shoes morning, lunchtime and evening. Still would not move.

Vinegar fixed it very quickly.

Grab some vinegar, Asda smart price, Tesco value, anything, soak your feet in it for as long as possible, (I watched telle in the eve swapping my feet over in the vinegar tub) and dry your feet with a hair-dryer. I also put some in a spray bottle and sprayed between my toes.

I used it neat, some things online suggest diluted, depends what your skin is happy with.

It will probably be under your toenails as well. Pull them out and rub salt into the nailbeds.
