I hate to the doom-monger, but I can't see this working out well for Rover in the long term.
Short term, the directors of MGR will get even richer and the government will be smug about making a deal at election time and not upsetting the voters.
Long term, the Chinese will simply take what they want from the company and then let MGR go.
Why would they do this? Because they want access to engine and other technology and once they have it, they can move on.
It does not matter what MGR can do in the long run. Once the Chinese have absorbed the engineering they have bought, they will always be able to make anything MGR make cheaper in China.
China will always be cheaper to manufacure things in than Longbridge. Thats why it is hard to be optimistic IMO.
Sadly

Not sure about this! I think it smells a bit like Delorean!
