Audi S8 D3 Carbon Ceramics
Discussion
Hiya everyone.
I got my S8 2 months ago. 75K on the clock - face lift model. It has carbon ceramic brakes - which I have to say are excellent IMHO. the only worry here is - what happens when the need replacing ? There are little black dots on the face of the disc - which "when burnt through" indicate that the disc needs weighing / replacing. Is that correct?
Has anyone sourced iron retro fit discs (and pads) from Brembo yet ?

The "black dots" are a visual indication that you're reaching the minimum thickness. However, as C/SiC ceramics are so hard, the minimum thickness is something like 37.3mm (can't remember exactly) as opposed to being 38mm when new so it's almost impossible to see, hence the dots which wear away quicker.
Once it hits the minimum thickness + 0.2mm they need to be weighed and are allowed to lose 120g maximum from their original weight when new. The minimum thickness & "weight when new" are written on the hub.
