Trackday (i)Phone holder recommendation
Discussion
I use my iPhone (5C) to control my Go Pro and the mount I use attaches to the windscreen with an adjustable arm which is quite long. I would like to us Harry's Laptimer App and need a mount which will allow a good view forwards.
I have tried my existing mount and it set the phone too far away from the windscreen to get a good picture and I am struggling to allow of the angle of the windscreen. The sucker is too large to attach to the scuttle. SO all in all my existing mount is not suitable for using the camera to record forwards.
Can anyone recommend a suitable mount (as it is difficult to decide what will work relying on picture of the mounts in adverts)?

I use Harry's Laptimer app too and had the same issues. I made a mount cos I couldn't find a solution, unscrew the two poppers where the aero screen fixes in the centre (I'm assuming all have this) then screw on two L brackets then glue the back of a phone case to it and you can just flip your phone into it. Simple - just clip on and off. Bit of foam tape underneath phone / brackets helps reduce any vibration.
I can post a picture tomorrow but I'm not with car today.
If I use my aero screen it it only takes a sec to unscrew and then I use this mount on the roll bar (I think they do an iPhone 5 version) it was the only iPhone mount I could find that had a wide enough fitting to go round the roll bar.

Quality not as good as an go pro but pretty good for video and lap times etc for an absolute fraction of the cost.
Happy to share pics / track day vids if you give me contact details

Bought original one in the UK. It can fold basically flat and held my phone fine for satnav and touring use.
Might cost you £2 to try out.
I did, look up 'Caterham R400 drag' on youtube to see the results from a Samsung S4

I cant help with a suitable mount, but I am intrigued as to why you are timing laps on a track day?
Are you really suggesting that people don't time laps on track days?BertBert said:
Are you suggesting that it's ok?
Given that lots of cars on track have lap timers built in, or even full blown data loggers it's a bit naive to suggest that they don't use them. Personally can see absolutely nothing wrong with it. On any track day you will have instructors advising drivers of what they are doing wrong, and a data logger is a much more precise instrument for informing drivers of where they are adrift.Personally, I think if a driver is worried about shaving a few tenths off his lap time, he should be competing in sprints or circuit racing with all the safety gear that entails.
Trackdays should be about having fun and enjoying the performance of your car in a safer and legal environment. When I'm driving a trackday, I have no idea of my lap times, but I can feel when I've improved round a corner. I also drive well within my limits, because my main priority is to get the car home in one piece and not ruin anyone's day by damaging theirs.
Of course, if you read the small print at any trackday, the organisers take a very dim view of timing as it invalidates their insurance and will lead to drivers being removed from the circuit.
