Hi , have recently acquired one of these and I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone could answer. Would 275/35/18 rear tyres fit without touching things they should not? Secondly would I be right in thinking that the W209 will not take a three pointed star instead of the bonnet badge? If I am wrong where can I get what I want?

Thanks in anticipation.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hello, the CLK is a lovely, elegant car. Mercedes coupes and convertibles ( CLK, SL etc) have always been fitted with a (large-ish) star set into the grill; saloons and estates fitted with the bonnet star. Those cars I've seen with both grille and bonnet stars fitted by enthusiastic owners, give off the same vibe as a middle-aged chap in double-denim.

It goes against the style zeitgeist, and people will tut.

No idea about the tyres, but can't think what benefit they'll bring, other than increased cost.

There's a convertible on AT that I have been watching.

It appeals because it is the facelift and has the obvious benefit of roof down driving when the weather allows!

I've seen that one seems a bit high, you do know you can retro fit the facelift centre console into the non facelift cars it takes around a day as you'll need to walk away from it at times but it can be done & the facelift grille is easily acquired.

Have you seen this facelift one for sale?

I reckon 9k cash lands that car on your driveway.

Thats the one I am interested in but thought it was Ebay and not AT!

The story is good with this one (my friend has seen it for me as he is local). Fully maintained by MB and during the latest service he was given the new version as a "loan" car. The standard trick worked and he wants to place an order fir one snd p/x his car with them.

They are "only" offering £9500 which he does not like (I am not sure he has grasped the cost to change principle) and so, out if principle, he wants to sell it privately!

Just had all the brakes done (circa £2000) and eberything seems clean and tidy. They do seem to tick a lot of boxes.

This was meant as a technical enquiry as I have two Goodyear FI surplus as the buyer of my Jag S Type R wanted to keep to Continentals. So I either fit them to the CLK AMG OR sell them on flee bay, hence the first question.

As my Jag had a leaper fitted by a previous owner I have become accustomed to following an emblem hence my interest in fitting a three pointed star in place of a grotty badge. I belong to the school of thought that all jags should have a leaper, all M-B should have a three pointed star, all Bentleys a flying B and all R.R. should have a Lady of Ecstasy as it is called heritage, something difficult to buy.

I'd offer him the 9.5k then, grab it if it ticks the boxes.
