Picked up from another thread. I was impressed with the robustness of the Herald especially as a convertible.

Roof on a Herald saloon or coupe isn't structural, anyway - it just bolts on.

That is horrible to watch!

Looks like a Vitesse from the back, I hope it can be rebodied.

Looks totally deliberate. Any charges for the other driver?

Deliberate! How can you make that assumption?

The silver Peogeot didn't see the Herald as it was unsighted by the van heading in the opposite way and made the stupid decision to cross without looking. Clearly he just didn't see the Herald but I can't see how you could say it was deliberate.

Hope the driver was OK.

How fking stupid is that Peugeot driver!!?? There are just too many people out there on the roads that need a thorough check over at Spec Savers, really pisses me off!

Have to admit to a certain bias in this as my daily driver was the victim of an unprovoked assault by a Mercedes van on the M5 Thursday morning.

Maybe, probably not deliberate, but definitely without due care and attention.
If you stop the video at 1:12, you will see that the passing white car is directly between the Pug and the camera, so well clear of the junction.
The video is entitled "Sad end". Unless it was on TPF&T the Pug driver and their insurer should be putting the owner of the Herald back in the position they were before, the owner of an excellent (looking) Herald. It should not end there!

Doesn't make any difference if the Peugeot Driver was only on TPF&T - the Herald Driver will be compensated - the Peugeot Driver won't unless he was fully comp.

Reading the youtube thread the Herald driver is ok. Knowing how strong Herald chassis are I wouldn't be surprised if the car is actually quite repairable.

The Peugeot driver is due a bking though..

Not hugely relevant but not a Vitesse. Horrific and unnecessary and hopefully the driver is ok as mentioned

It's a Herald 13/60 for what it's worth.

Perhaps this accident isn't quite what it seems. The 'A' pillar on modern cars has to support the weight of the car in the event of a roll over. This means they are quite thick. It is possible in some circumstances that the blind spot created by the nearside pillar can completely obscure an oncoming car at a T junction. I know, it's happened to me twice recently, once when I was the one turning out of the T junction (very scary) and then again when I was the one on the main road and someone turned out in front of me.

I now always check I can see the head of any driver at a T junction that I'm approaching. If their A pillar is in the way I expect the worst. The Peugeot driver might have been completely unsighted. This phenomenon only seems to happen when you don't come to a complete halt at the T junction as, as soon as you stop moving the other car moves out of the blind spot and 'appears out of nowhere'.

This might sound like complete nonsense, but when it happens it really shakes you up.

PS I go to Spec Savers regularly!
