2.8 air control valve cover anyone?
Discussion
Got a problem with my S1. Thought I had sorted everything on the K Jetronic but I have noticed increasing trouble with slow running. I took the auxiliary air pipe off the throttle body and it immediately stalled suggesting too much air getting in. A check round with the old pipe in the ear revealed air hissing in above the air control valve. Thought at first it was the start of the trunking from the air control valve cover to the throttle body but it turned out to be more serious....the air control valve cover has started to split underneath!

Not good! Not long before Burghley either. Damn. Good thing I found it now though, it would have rapidly weakened the mixture on a trip.
Is there anyone out there who has one they are willing to sell, or even one I could borrow until I have located one? Big ask I know.

Ok I have one but it has a very small split by the test plug but I patched it with repair bandage...well sort of bodged it really but it worked ok...if its any good to you its yours.

Many thanks for the offers gents, really appreciate it. I decided last night to try and repair it, at least as a temporary measure. I have had a go using the Evo-Stik Serious Glue (recommended by Philpott for another job). The results look good so far and it seems flexible enough. I hope to try it tomorrow and will report back.

I am also going to try to make a support to reduce the load which is causing this joint to flex.
That was a pretty long split and I am under no illusions though that the 25+ year old polymer is probably just going to split again near the repair. So the search is on for an undamaged one. I have been given a couple of leads but no luck yet.
If I cannot get one quickly, can I please get back to one of you guys with a damaged one which I can 'repair' and keep with me as a safeguard for the Burghley trip?

Richard,
There are a few choices for you here now which is really good! Mine is really of no use to me at all though as I no longer have the S, so happy for you to have it as a back up. I think I got my replacement from capri gear but to be fair this was holding up and the split is far less severe than yours by the look of the photos. I reckon sikaflex would work quite well though if required as said by one of the other guys on this thread. It might do you a turn at least before you can find a perfect one.
I'm not sure where you are, I'm in Brentwood Essex but can post out if its easier.
Let me know.
Cheers,
Phil

That glue you recommended Philpott has now dried overnight and I must say I am very impressed indeed. It appears to have bonded well but still retains a good deal of flexibility. I did build it up a bit with the glue to spread the load but the use of a patch or two sounds like a good idea to spread the load even further. I have now to build a (stainless steel!) support for that end of the air tube.
Then to test it. If I get the one from Phil above as a spare I then have the time to get a 'new' one.
I need to get it out to run in the new larger disc brakes (thanks again Philpott for the caliper carriers in particular
). As I have to work on mine outdoors I have had to leave that until the recent dry spell, but they are all on now.

Hi Phil, that is very good of you. As you no longer have the S I feel a little better getting one from you! I have been unable to PM you direct but if you would be good enough to PM me I would be very happy to arrange postage with you and a
contribution!!
Thanks Phil, much appreciated. You have mail.

Phillpot = top bloke, really nice chap

Unfortunately I "adopted" this Forum name before that scumbag came to light
How can I apologise enough!!

To think that I confused the identity of an esteemed member in such a way. Write out 100 times that 'stainless steel' Phillpot has two ll's. (or was it two SS's??)
