Wrong way on motorway
Discussion
Assuming they turned back and went along the hard shoulder so as to reach a nearby slip road, I'd call that gross stupidity and selfishness. They might have blocked an ambulance or fire appliance coming to the aid of someone. Dangerous? That's a stretch.
Still, the courts will look to make an example out of them, so yes I'd expect a DD conviction and associated fine.

You don't think that qualifies as dangerous driving?Still, the courts will look to make an example out of them, so yes I'd expect a DD conviction and associated fine.
I'm not particularly surprised.
There was an accident on the M4 today (between J13 and J14) where 3 cars and a lorry were involved in a smash. We were crawling along in the traffic caused by everyone slowing to have a gawp and, to my disbelief, a bloke in a Mercedes C-Class estate pulled over on the hard shoulder, stopped the car and went for [what we assume was] a pee. This meant the hard shoulder was blocked whilst the rest of the lanes were gridlocked, allowing absolutely no room for emergency vehicles to pass.
Unbelievable.

Would you rather he pulled alongside and pissed into your lap? There was an accident on the M4 today (between J13 and J14) where 3 cars and a lorry were involved in a smash. Being overtaken in a 30 mph limit (whilst travelling at 30 mph) on a blind bend today, just cements my belief that there are a hell of a lot of idiots on the roads.
Lincolnshire's road death figures are around 15 for the year so far. I think there were 6 this time last year.
I blame the way society has become more selfish, the war on speed (money spent on cameras rather than police), and the way modern cars detach you from the outside world and the sense how damaging a lump of metal at speed can be.

If a driver has just passed their test and never driven on a motorway I know it should not happen but I can see that it is possible they could drive down the wrong slipway and be on the wrong side of the motorway.
In my opinion driving on the motoway should be part of the lessons and the actual driving test.

I'd rather he be a big boy and hold it in or at least position his car so it doesn't block the entire hard shoulder. This happened to me back on Boxing Day 1997, me and my brother had just been to Currys to buy a spangly new DVD player and were coming back along the M621 from Birstall, it's a two lane 50mph road round a fairly blind bend on entry.
It was dark and raining and as I came round the corner, I saw car indicating to move right from the hard shoulder. Thinking normally, I moved to the outside Lane to give him room to pull into the first Lane... Then I realised with no small amount of horror that he wasn't pulling out, he was turning around.
Cue a f
kload of swearing as I slammed on and swerved hard left (he was broadside across both lanes) I missed most of him but shat my pants watching my wing mirror hit the back of his car and smash off in slo-mo. I was 20 at the time and by no means a driving God so the predictable result of swerving and braking in the wet meant I lost it and as I tried to catch the car to stop careering across the road, lost it and spun into the central reservation hitting the passenger side front and then whizzing down the road backwards...
The old gimmer in the Mk3 Astra I hit had also stopped as had witnesses and when the police arrived in due course, they made a beeline for the two young lads in the smashed up Rover 220GSi for an explanation, probably expecting it to be our fault.
What was a little surprising was that having been told what had happened and the old guy admitting the same, one cop asked the other if they need needed to follow it up? The response from presumably the senior copper was "This lad's probably sitting on a Mars bar in his pants, yes we follow it up".
The old guy's explanation was he'd been at his sisters and forgotten his glasses - to this day I don't know if he meant he didn't realise he was on a motorway or whether he meant, "It's OK, I was just turning around to go get them".
It went to court without me, can't remember what he got charged with now but he plead guilty, obviously.

Happened in Staffordshire only recently - 18 month ban and a suspended prison sentence. I suspect being a lorry drive made it worse, being foreign made it less as he got confused.

Probably so would he. It's highly probable or likely that he had a real medical condition and HAD to pee.
It's highly probable or likely he'd tell the boys in blue that, if he was caught. In reality it's much more likely that he was just a selfish t

Not this again ffs look at a map of how many parts of the country and test stations are considerable distances from any kind of motorway , Cornwall most of Devon, most of Lincolnshire etchttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/roads-m...
and that's just England before you even consider Wales & Scotland.
The only other way would be simulators in test stations?

Oh yes, I also live in Lincolnshire.

Just pee in a bottle?
I did that once into a drinks can. The problem was I had the can in one hand, my little boy in the other holding it in the can, and then the can was full and I still hadn't stopped peeing. Never again.Edited to say, when I say little boy I don't mean my son, I was alone

I'd say it was more likely he needed a pee and didn't want to do it in his car, most would do the same. These things do happen at the most inconvenient moments.
That's the big advantage of pissing while riding a motorcycle instead of driving a car. The wee just runs off and your pants soon dry. Best to make sure your passport isn't in your pocket though. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
