I'm currently looking for a Secondhand set of GT3 (Sport Design) Wheels, but am confussed by some adverts regarding the correct width. Some say 7.5"-Front 9"-Rear others say 8"-Front 10"-Rear.
What width should they be for a 996?

Varying sizes, depending on wide body etc. For example are valid combinations on the 996

FRONT 8J ET50 WITH 225/40/ZR18
REAR 11J ET45 WITH 295/30/ZR18

FRONT 8J ET50 WITH 225/40/ZR18
REAR 11J ET63 WITH 295/30/ZR18

FRONT 8J ET52 WITH 225/40/ZR18
REAR 10J ET65 WITH 285/30/ZR18

With 9" rears having 265/35/ZR18.

It's a case of watching the offset on the wheels as you may need spacers to ensure everything is a valid combination.

The standard Mk1 GT3 wheels are 10x18/et65 and 8x18/et52. (Tyres were 285/30's and 225/40's). They had a 3mm shim to help clear the bigger brakes. They will fit the standard 996.

Options were produced for the turbo/C4s, the standard 996 and the boxster.

The boxster used the 9's and 7.5's I think. The turbo and C4S had a wider body and had the lesser offset with the 11" on the rear of these wide boys.

So when you see "Set of GT3 wheels" you could be buying anything! Check your current set up and compare....
