wavey I've been looking forward to a decent drive and a few days away with the V12V (and the wife biggrin) but the car normally resides in its own heated garage. My question for those who know, is if I take the V12V and storm Katie arrives, how much water will run through the bonnet vents and over the engine? I know this may sound silly, but I'm not sure I can relax knowing my car is taking a cold shower and I'm pretty sure the hotel won't let me park it in reception. biggrin

That's interesting Quart... like you my DB9 is always garaged and never taken out in the wet, and your comment is the first time I've had to think about water ingress instead of heat egress.

My vents are over the engine struts and something other than H20 went through from the PO and made some marks which luckily I've been able to remove or mostly cure.

I'd be wondering more about the quality of stuff that enters. Water only should be ok, as all cars are designed for that. Not that it makes us less worried!

I've heard that it will just dissolve and very quickly too. Come the morning there'll be nothing left except a small pile of badly shrunk leather.

No idea as if there is any small chance of rain mine stays in the garage.

I when the car is running Inimahine any rain would simply boil off and when stationary without the engine running it will be compatible or less than when the car is washed, so either way I wouldn't worry about it.

Some of us enjoy the experience more when we don't have to clean everything up after a drive. I used enjoy cleaning my cars... got spiritually closer to the brand smile, could spot damaged areas quickly, felt a sense of satisfaction, blah blah blah.

That's all gone after 50 years of rat race conformity. Now I resent the wasted hours I spend and the cost of bottled gold that it takes to clean it.

I just want the fun of driving a clean car without all the work - and fair weather gives me that freedom back again.

Thanks everyone, I think you're right, I'm not going to worry about it. I was only interested in how much water pours in to the engine bay while its static.

I did my PDC while it was chucking it down with rain in a V12V and we had no problems. I am sure I asked the guy from the factory this exact questions and he said "not a problem". As the vents are quite high you can probably go through more sitting water than the average Ford Focus.

I take the V8V out in the rain when I get an itch that needs scratching and I never had a problem

You have chosen an appropriate colour. The metallic greys are good at still looking clean, even when slightly grubby.

When I lift the bonnet, my attention is drawn to a few bolts that have corroded.
It might not have been caused by water through the vents, but I think I am begining to worry.

It is probably the same bolts on all of our cars. Has anyone bothered to deal with them, and if so was it a lick of Hammerite?

Seriously? At the end of the day it's a car, although a very nice one. Feb 18 was my 1 year anniversary with mine and I put 10k miles on it. I don't get the mindset of those that are worried about them getting soaked, snowed on, muddy, long trips, etc....
That one blogger with his Aston did his 800 mile trip and reported there weren't any problems. Really, if you have a car that you don't think will make an 800 mile trip trouble free get rid of it. There's another blog I follow where the person made the comment about when a Ferrari group goes for a drive a couple usually catch on fire.
So enjoy your Aston. If you're going to worry about it get rid of it and get something you'll enjoy. I smile every time I see mine. Love the smell when I open the door. (amazed how after 9 years it still has that leather smell - probably lethal smile ). Still enjoy washing it. And having started to work on it, coils, bumper and such, am enjoying that too. When I start mine up and head out the only thing I worry about is where the cops are hiding smile
