It's just a whole other level of mental. Watched the film 'big short' last night and it's all about the crash and prevailing bubble before it, the whole car market at the minute feels like a very similar scenario.
People have been saying that for 5 years on here.Ain't happened yet.

That's cheaper than the last 2 hahaHow on earth can these two cars be worth the same? Insane. I known CGT is slightly more.
How is it materially better than the 991 GT3, or the RS it a manual 991 GTS/991.2 C2S?

I have no idea Mr All , I'll be honest I appreciate the R . I think it's a good direction to follow for Porsche , a vehicle type I feared dead . Also I look forward to the R light that will be for general consumption but by the Power Of Greyskull how this can be in the same price range as a Carrera GT or a 73 RS that needs some love is absolutely beyond my ability to comprehend . One was for sale at 1.2 MILLION EUROS , I can only think it's insanity . How on earth can these two cars be worth the same? Insane. I known CGT is slightly more.

To put it into perspective that's more ( MUCH MORE) than I paid for a 73 RSR with an impeccable race history , provenance , ownership history , historical importance and condition only a few years ago . The world has gone mad .

At some point in the future there will be a time when people need or want to offload cars ASAP and this will result in some relative bargains compared to todays prices as they will be more open to offers or cars will be at auctions with fewer bidders.
When this is and which cars will be available who knows but it will happen at some point and I am hoping soon!

A small uplift (10-20%) I could understand. This boils my piss.
Sold to a speculator rather than made available to someone who would love and use it.
Problem is many buyers are probably not speculators until they get one and realise how much they could get for it. Only someone with no value or need for money could turn down some of the crazy numbers.Sold to a speculator rather than made available to someone who would love and use it.
E.g. you may be a true enthusiast with great intention...but are you in a financial and life choice position where you could turn away say €450k (equivalent to a €900k pre-tax bonus)?
...maybe the real culprit in this is the person willing to pay that premium...everyone else is a victim!!

...or maybe the buyer is the real enthusiast willing to pay so much!
No, I don't have one to sell

I bought mine in April 2013 and cmoose is right, its gone up by about 20k but crucially I don't think it will ever drop below the price I paid for it. Its 'safe' money at the moment and arguably for the foreseeable future......plus I have put on 17,000 glorious enjoyable miles on it - BONUS!

I have a friend who bought a GT3 RS around the same time and his has almost trebled in value in the same period!
This current 'overs' market is very odd to me, the cars themselves have not had time to appreciate and people have not driven them enough to form an opinion on their merits and qualities, it just seems like (to me) that the people paying these high prices either:
a) want to get on the profit bandwagon or
b) have loads of cash and just want the latest shiniest toys.
I can understand high prices being commanded for old cars like E's and T's and 930's and 964RS's and classic 2.7 RS's etc as these cars have spent time in the doldrums and many hands have driven them and appreciated them over the years and now people are out there with a bit of cash and hunting that same visceral thrill they got from these cars when younger which they find lacking in the new cars.
I don't know why new cars like the GT4 and the 991 GT3 RS etc are being valued so highly when the only real exposure people have had to these cars is by watching youtube videos or reading car magazines. Not one of them has grown up with a poster of a GT4 on their bedroom wall or watched a 991 GT3 RS fly past them on the raggedy edge competing in the Targa Florio or flying down the Mulsanne Straight with fire belching out its exhaust... so why is there this massive desire to pay over the odds to own one?
I can only assume these people paying £500k for a 991R or £280K for a 991 GT3 RS or £105k for a GT4 fit into either category a or b above.
Then again, I can't fathom why someone would pay £600k for a 2.7 RS when a replica will offer 90% of the experience for 20% of the cost.....but strangely, I can understand their desire to own an original. A car they had on their bedroom wall as a child.
