To cheer everyone up, here's what happened yesterday. I bought a new steering damper for my 190e and put the car over my pit. The d/s front wheel was quite close to the edge, and to make access to the damper mountings I hauled the steering over a bit, changed the damper, wiped my hands and hopped in, started up, let off the handbrake and got that sinking feeling. Reacting fast for an old bloke, the brakes held it poised with the tyre down on the edge of the gaping pit and no space to get a jack under or for me to squeeze into the pit with any lifting gear, not that this seemed a wise option. Pause to draw breath, then unhooked the chain block, hooked it through holes in the wheel and managed to lift the corner, reverse a bit onto terra firma and release the chain. Phew! Rather ironic since one of my last posts was grumbling about other people's bodges.

Phew, close one. I guess most of us have had heart-sopping moments like this, no matter how careful we are. Glad you and the car are OK

Yes you can get into all sorts of trouble moving heavy stuff about. Glad nothing bad happened smile
